Help! Any kitchen/design suggestions?

Hi all. We lost our home to a fire last summer. Our entire home, including the kitchen has now been gutted and we are installing drywall tomorrow (yay!). I was hoping to get some help from the Houzz community regarding colors and overall kitchen design. I've attached a picture of what we have in the plans so far and also what it used to look like.

We were thinking Sherwin Williams Silver Strand for the entire main living area, SW Incredible White for the cabinets (we like "greige" but not too dark) SW Evergreen Fog for the little island, coffee bar (which will be in the hall by the door), and living room built-in. The cabinets will go all the way to the ceiling with glass at the top so we really won't see much of the wall color here. We also have chosen Perla Venata Quartzite...but might switch to a white quartz. Any thoughts on this? Open to suggestions at this point!! We have never had to do this before so it's a bit overwhelming.

EDIT: So sorry if I was not clear on what I was asking of everyone! This has been a crazy process for us. I am mostly hoping to get opinions on color and materials since we cannot change our layout. I've attached a pic of what we love and are hoping to achieve that as much as we can.

Oh, and we love this look!

I have no idea what you want from us your old kitchen is IMO over the top is that what you still want or are you looking for something more simple. I am realist and do not have a live in housekeeper so my kitchen designs tend to be more on the contemporary side with easy to clean surfaces . I am a chef too and so for cooking all those grooves in cabinet doors would make me crazy. I do however suggest you get a KD now this is too much to be answered on this forum, we can certainly critique a plan if youwant that but honestly you have provided no context for an actual design like a floor plan , what your appliances are just a ton of info needed to even think about helping. All the stuff on the mood board comes after a good design.I like the colors mostly not the quartzite with the other colors and what is the bottom left picture of.

Hi Patricia, I appreciate your feedback. We can't actually change the floorplan/layout of the kitchen, so really I was hoping to get feedback on the selections we have picked so far since we are not currently working with anyone but the builder. I mostly wanted help with colors...especially the paint colors. We want the space to feel bright and light. The appliances we picked are stainless steel like what we had before. Thank you!!

Thank you Liz. At this time we do not have a designer in our budget...I do think it would be wonderful to have. Maybe I am asking too much here, but I mostly was looking for opinions on the materials selected, colors, and cabinets. Hoping that we aren't making any major mistakes since we have not done this before! Thanks so much for the feedback!

I get it but you did say design too so hence the answer. I would still reccommend a KD not your builder or your architect I do like most of the choices as I mentioned but not the quartz and is the bottom left your floor or what. I would choose the white cabinets to have a nice classic feel .

This part is for Liz I am an honest person that says what I think and the people who know me appreciate the fact that I don’t sugar coat my thoughts . If I come across as abrasive that is in your mind. I try to offer advice that is helpful I hope.

I guess in my mind I was thinking the materials selected were part of the design too...BUT I do appreciate your advice. Yes, those will be our "tile" wood-look floors. Hoping it will warm the kitchen up since much of the colors are cooler. Do you think something whiter for the counters would make more sense?

To clarify, you're only asking for comments on the aesthetics/looks, not the functionality of the layout/design? Correct? (Too bad, if you could make changes, you could do so much better than what you had! (That layout would drive me crazy!))

Yes exactly!! There are SOME layout changes we can make, but it is pretty limited. At this point we are just trying to improve what we had as much as possible.

Sorry for your home Sarah. This is a long and diffcult process, I know because we just rebuilt our entire first floor due to water and mold damage. Between trying to find a contractor that would do quality work and not ripe us off and getting the insurance to pay, it was quite a trial in patience. My heart is with you!

I did put in the wood look tile floors for our whole first floor (kitchen, great room, master and laundry) and I LOVE IT! Really love the paint colors and back splash choices you have made. I think a simpler white counter will get you closer to your inspiration photo. Because you have lots of counter down both sides of your kitchen the pattern can get very busy. Keeping the counters light and simple will solve this and give your kitchen a clean elegant feel.

    Here is my finished Kitchen:

Sorry you can't see more of the floor.

Thank you Jaime, sorry to hear about what you had to go through. Your new kitchen looks gorgeous!! I am in love that backsplash too. Glad to hear that the wood-tile will be a good choice! I think you are right about the counters. The quartzite might be too beige and busy. Might reconsider that.

I think your choices need something bold somewhere, to give contrast and interest. It seems to me that all that softness would be fine for a relaxing masterbath, but imho, a kitchen requires more energy.

I too don't like the countertop, too busy and wishy washy. If going with quartz I'd go with a solid color that doesn't try to be something it isn't.

I held off from responding Patricia but after a few more weeks of seeing many of your comments I have to say that there is a distinct difference between honesty and negativity. You choose to identify and point out the negative in any given situation. These comments are often unfounded and contemptuous. Honest and blunt comments that are actually helpful are valuable. Negativity for negativity’s is useless.
