Stair cap doesn’t match hardwood

February 11, 2019

We’re very upset about how dark the stain turned out on our newly installed railing. The lacquer they used made it look even darker then we had wanted. The lacquer has a 20 degree sheen, but the hardwood has a matte finish. Once the hardwood is installed, it will look make our harwood look dull and washed out by comparison. Is there anything we can do to remove the lacquer and lighten it up. The people staining the wood were really rushing the job and lacquered almost immediately after staining. We feel like we got a very rushed, inconsistent stain job. The edges of the stair caps are even worse, they look almost black! Any suggestions on how to fix this?
