T daylilies 2019

sherrygirl zone5 N il
February 11, 2019

We are all the way to T daylilies, this has gone fast! I’m mad at winter right now, another night of freezing rain, darn it........ok, here’s the quote of the day: “ my bed is a magical place where I suddenly remember everything I forgot to do today.”

Tyger River

Tootsie Rose, a good small one, good color.

Trahlyta, a great older daylily. I’m guessing most of us grow this one.

Top Honors, I love this oldie! My favorite shade of yellow and the blooms are big, I’m betting 7” will have to measure this season.

Tall Dark Stranger was an addition last season, I love it! Its tall and has two looks, cooler weather means more purple, warmer weather is a lovely shade of red.

Sherry sometimes the simplicity of the oldies is so elegant. Top Honors really jumped off the page for me, love, love that colour!

Think Pink would have been better minus the fly.

Tears of a Clown is relatively new to the garden and not well established yet. I hope the color improves. It is an offspring of Clown Parade.

I never know where to put Tet. Rose F. Kennedy, but I didn't put it with the R's so I'll put it here. We don't grow the dip version, but the tet version has been a great disappointment. We just can't get it to grow. We purchased it (at a high price) and received two nice fans. We split it (in fear of a vole eating one), but neither has increased. They stay at one fan with a poorly budded scape. I sure hope the original version is a better grower than the tet version. We have gotten some nice seedlings out of it, but most don't have much of a plant habit.

I hope this is Time in a Bottle. We bought it as Jacki Kropf, which it is obviously not. The seller refunded our money and said they thought it was Time in a Bottle.

Totally Toothy is not well established but looks like it might do well.

Triple Cherries is a favorite here. It doesn't grow as tall as it published stats, but it is a reliable rebloomer in our garden. It also sets seeds well and throws doubles. In fact, our registration Krakatoa Katie is our of Triple Cherries.

Tyger River is a nice orange that grows well here

    That's all for me.

Sherry, Tall Dark Stranger is so pretty. Years ago, I bought Dark and Handsome at a daylily farm. I thought it gorgeous. It promptly died-I bought another which also died. So I wonder if daylilies with these adjectives would survive for me!!! :) They denote the same kind of visualization for me!! Nancy, I have wondered about Rose F. Kennedy, not the tet version. I have a friend who has the dip and hers does not multiply enough to divide. I have always liked the looks of it but not enough to buy it to languish. I think Kay has it and wonder how hers does.

Oops!! Forgot to add my T contribution. Not a surprise to most of you that I would have this lily picture handy. It, of course is in my phone pictures at all times!!

Thomas Tew-excellent habit for me. Has multiplied well. And tends to be lighter than other pictures I have seen which makes the eye color pop. Rebloomed several times last year. Reblooms tend to be even larger than first blooms. Would be packed in my luggage if I had to leave my house and garden!!

Brad. thanks so much for posting the image of Tennessee Sunset . I have that one listed in my spreadsheet but I have sort of lost track of it , not sure if it is even still surviving here . Seeing the picture will help enable me to try to track it down here in my gardens . My dogs are responsible for many missing tags , my husband for the odd one that he snowblows to smithereens . He did that recently on the path near the back steps . It is hard to judge just where the edge of the gardens are when the tags are buried in snow . I had to make new tags for Trivia Pusuit and Capacity for Wonder LOL . The tag for them I found when the snow melted .......about 20 feet away from the garden .

Tune the Harp is lovely .......gonna try to track that one down .

Here are the Ts that I grow:

THIN MAN: a little slow to increase. Large blooms.

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS: One of Petit's that does real well for me. It is above the foliage and is one of the first to bloom. Nice patterned eye.

TIGER EYE SPIDER: One of the first ones to bloom. Makes small fans.

TACTICAL CAT: An outstanding Bud Bennett intro.

TAINTED LOVE: A Bennett intro. He did not do many orange daylilies.

TORRID DANCER: Another Bennett intro. Relatively new. It should really show its stuff this summer.

TECHNY ORE: Tall with an orange gold edge.

    TECHNY ORE: A different image

The Band Played On: Striking in the garden.

THE TRIBBLE WITH BLUE: On rebloom the eye is much bluer.

THE UNBLINKING EYE: Makes large fans and is well budded.

TIME FOR ETERNITY: Another Petit that does well this far north.

TIME TO FLY: I love the appliqued eye/throat on this one.

TOTAL COMMITMENT: Tall scapes. Very nice plant from Rice.

TOTAL LOOK: Another one that is tall.

TOTAL SILENCE: Very nice UFO. I like the white edge.

TRANSYLVANIAN TANGO: Large fans. Many blooms with teeth.

    TRUELY ANGELIC: Very consistent performer.

TUSCAWILLA BLACKOUT: Trying to poly. This photo does a pretty good job of capturing the black rosy purple colors.

    That is all for me

I really love Tyrolean Treasure Shive . Wow what a great looking plant .

Daylilybedmaker The Band Played On lept off the page at me . Great looking plant too

Sherry , although much shorter than I like , Techny Spider is a really nice plant . The substance of the blooms is phenomenal Feels almout 1/4 inch thick . I could be wrong but I think it is what is called a polychrome .

Who has experience with Tooth? I count at best 6 buds on Celeste's picture, and one scape has 3. How reliable is it? How distinctive is it? It is out of Bela Lugosi, but seems not to have that one's consistency. Scape height?

    sherrygirl zone5 N il thanked mantis__oh
  • signet_gw(6b)

mantis , Tooth grows about 30 inches tall for me here in S.W. Ontario . It is a nice sturdy plant but I cant say the blooms are prolific . It does usually only show the odd tooth on the petals that is to say there isn't a completely toothed rim around the petals and sepals. It is a nice deep purple here with very pale mid ribs ( not showing much white here ) . I cant say I recall it ever reblooming but it is a Hansen and an evergreen ( a florida bred cultivar ) so I am lucky it is still here I guess . Many of Hansens dont do well here .

  • shive

Signet - That photo of Tyrolean Treasure was taken when the heat index was about 110. The flowers were a lot more faded there than in previous years.

Brad - The photo of Tiffany Shade makes the color look better than it is. That one usually has short scapes here. I wouldn't recommend it.

Mantis, I have Tooth, and very happy with it. Mine is 32 to 34" tall, with a decent bud count. I don't seem to have a photo of it unfortunately, but around 15 bud count. I have in my notes that it had a couple scapes with just over 20 buds, i just noted the highest bud counts, but I don't remember the remaining being excessively fewer. That is very good in my garden. I have never seen much in the way of teeth on it though.

Beautiful plants everyone, seeing so many I feel I really need.
