Husbands home office: he picked a deep forest green for walls!!

HELP!! My hubby likes this deeep forest green colors for a very tiny home office space that we are re-doing. Now it’s only 11x10 to begin with with one window and a closet. So I want to break it up with some wood planks but he wants a deep rich wood which I think is going to make the small room even smaller! He doesn’t want a rustic look...rich and deep. Anyone have any ideas?? Ive used stikwood and mod-ified boards for my barnwood walls and love the products. I just don’t know what finish to pick!!! Nothing with too much red, no rustic white-ish or gray barnwood either. He wants refined. HELP!!

Make sure you get a duck decoy in there. It will be nice! It might not be you but it will be nice. :)

do a wainscot. paint it a glossy forest. for the top portion, a matte. kind of like this but w/the same colors, or one shade lighter

(or see if he'll do a white wainscot and deep green on the upper portion. you could also do the green on the ceiling

you could do some cool wall trim like this, and paint it an eggshell

Or just do one wall like this in the deep green

He wants the "clubby" space. So what? Let the desk be wood, and skip the "wood " on the wall thing entirely. What's the rug? Or it is edge to edge carpet? What is the hall, or what are the room colors near or adjacent to this little study? Lots of colors can be "man caves" : )

I would find that way too dark but it is his space why not go on this site and get him to start his own wish list and then you can stop guessing.Men love wood so let him have some I love some of the ideas Beth posted so see waht he thinks of those.

Sounds like it will be very pretty. I appreciate when men have an opinion and input on home decor. I detest stereotypes, but we can't deny that there's often an undercurrent of "hubby doesn't care" in these forums. I say good on the men who actively participate in the creation of a home -- even if their ideas don't quite align with our vision. (Compromise or make peace with it. ;-))

I second the notion of ditching the stikwood wall if the rest of the walls are deep green. All of the examples posted above are lovely so just find the perfect shade of green that doesn’t scream St Patrick’s Day Parade.

I have seen a small "library" room done with dark green and it actually made the space seem larger (contrary to popular belief). Task lighting would be very important, both for the desk, and any reading area. I would allow your husband to "do his thing," in "his" room, as the rest of the house is "your" thing, no doubt.

Truth is dark walls recede, which means smaller spaces tend to feel larger, not smaller , with dark walls. The key is "decoration".........not drab and unfinished. Rugs, lighting, some other lighter effects, art....... = decoration : ) . Not "mud" lol

Let him do what his heart desires and keep the door closed. 5 cents, please.

Sorry for the poor quality photo. This was my hubby’s office in our last home. The photo makes the walls appear more olive than they were, anyways, he loved that deep green. We painted the ceiling a grayish green and that was a nice feel in there. It wasn’t rustic at all, he had things that were important to him on the walls... photographs of jets he’d helped design signed by the engineers who worked with him on those projects, and instruments he used to play displayed on the walls (a trombone he played from 2nd grade through high school, and the first bass guitar he learned to play on, that happened to be a pretty color of wood) Hubby opted for flat sheen walls in that office because he did a lot of web development work and he didn’t want any glare when staring at his computer screens.

It sounds like he has an idea of what he wants. I'd let home decorate it and stay out of the way. The posts above have some great pics for ideas to get him started.

Deep forest green in matte finish, rich color persian rug, do the bookcase(s) in a deep walnut and let him pick the furniture...the rest of the room will decorate itself with the stuff he wants to display.
