I need help deciding on chairs for my new dining room table

Hi, I recently purchased this dining room table from a friend (I believe it's from IKEA). The table is wood tone on top and has black wooden legs. My decor, however, contains light blues, grays and whites. I'm torn over what color chairs to purchase for this table. I do not want black chairs since I don't have black elsewhere in my home. I think that having 6-8 black chairs would darken the space. I suppose black legs would be ok. Do any of you have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I would do a blue parsons dining chair. Something like these, but in a color closer to your rug color:

Picket House Furnishings Margo Parsons Dining Chair in Blue (Set of 2) · More Info

Anderson Side Chair With Brown Cherry Tapered Legs, Denim Blue · More Info

Legs for above should be black.

Thank you, Sabrina! Your suggestion inspired me. As a result, I think I found a nice chair on Macy's website. Of course, I had to photoshop it to get a feel for it and I'm loving it.

I may have to paint the legs black, not sure yet.

If the table stays as is, then there is not enough room for chairs on that rug. Frankly I'm not sure there is enough room for chairs at the end of the table. Appears too long for the room. You need 3' at each end for the chair and a small walkway and I don't think you have that. I'm guessing you expect to get 8 around this table.

Can you turn the table in this room? Also the scale of the table makes the furniture on the far wall look miniaturized. Perhaps you actually need a smaller scale table for this room.

Thanks Beverly. I plan to have 6 but keep 2 extras stored for super large gatherings. I agree about the table. I think it's a bit too large but my friend was selling it for such a low price that I could not pass it up. I've been trying to upload a photoshopped image I made using Macy's chairs I found online but have had no luck. Oh well...

I realized that I was trying to upload a png file. When I converted it to a jpeg, it worked. Anyway, these are the chairs I found a couple of days ago. They may be the answer!

Those chairs are nice, color good, look comfy, but the legs seem a little spindly compared to the scale of the table base.

Ooh, good point! Maybe I can find something similar with thicker legs.

    Hi Wanda-
Please, please do not buy chairs from the Internet.
Chairs have to be comfortable and sturdy and made to last and support even big people.
You are much better off going to charity stores craigslist and tag sales looking for sets of chairs made of solid wood and recovering the seat cushions and painting the wood.
These stores have so many of these sets now!
It is so easy to cover a chair seat and not difficult to learn how to paint the wood or you can leave the wood the way it is or just sand and varnish it.

Don't like MCM chairs with the rustic leg table.

My mom was telling me the same thing. Since the chairs I found online were from Macy's, I will call a store and see if I can see them in person. I've been checking out craigslist and some local shops, but I'm finding that 6-8 chairs is a tough number to find. Most are selling 4 matching chairs. I will keep looking and really don't mind waiting. I was just a bit confused as to the design direction since the table has black legs and I don't have black anywhere in my house.

why don't you paint the table legs white to match your painted furniture?

Agree with painting the legs white.

white legs for a kitchen not for a dining room. I'm assuming those two miniature cabinets will be replaced with a larger sideboard.

I probably won't be replacing the cabinets any time soon as they are sentimental pieces that I inherited and I only have enough money to do the chairs now.
