Kaleidochrome- where, oh where, can I find you?!

I have contacted at least half a dozen nurseries about Kaleidochrome and none of them are carrying this one any longer. Most didn’t give a reason other than they simply change their stock every year to accommodate all the new varieties being introduced.

By most accounts this variety is a strong grower and stable. Given the overall limited number of stable streakers, I’d expect this one to be a “classic“ offered nearly every year.

If anyone knows a mail order source, or even better, a local source in Southeast Wi or Northern Illinois I’d very much appreciate it!

My shade garden is pretty full, so really only room for a few more standout Hosta and this one is top of the list!

Just a quick update: Green Hill will have it this year! Thanks again everyone for the help. :)

I really like mine and agree with you, a very nice stable streaker! It is available at these 8 places in the US Kaleidochrome

Yes, I utilized Hosta finder for this one a few weeks ago and I can tell you that unfortunately many of the vendors on that list don’t actually have it this year. However looks like a few more have been added so I’ll check it out. Thank you.

How long have you had it? how much sun does it get?

I hope one of the new places on the list has it. I got mine in maybe 2010-2012, somewhere in that range. It gets sun until around 1:30 but my soil is rich and moisture retentive.

Have you also tried emailing these places to see if they have any at all? Often they will only list it for sale if they have enough quantity but they may have a very small number available.

brozeus, I looked at a list from last year for Wade and Gatton Nurseries in Ohio and they had it listed. I tried to get on their website but couldn't right now. I was on it last week. I tried getting it at Wade & Gatton last year towards the end of June and they were sold out. Green Hills had it last year too, but they were sold out when I went there in August.

Thanks for the heads up on those 2 nurseries. Do either of those nurseries do mail order? The Wade and Gatton website is still down. I tried all USA based sellers from the find my Hosta list and either they don’t offer mail order or they don’t have it this year. (I emailed to confirm rather than relying on to webpage listing)

I love this hosta but WI to OH is 8+ hours so I‘d much prefer mail order.

I can’t remember ever spending so much effort to track down a hosta, but I’m sure many members do so on a regular basis. Such is the sickness of the “hosta virus”!
