I am looking to stain my front exterior doors in Yankee Barn stain also. Could you please share a photo of yours? I can't seem to find a good one from a general search.

If you pay him the extra to start over completely, and there is still enough wood left to sand, sure you can change your mind as much as you want. Be aware that dark is tons more work to keep looking nice than medium tones, and there aren't very many who have been down that path that would do it again.

Beverly, I thought about a pergola, but decided against it. it's a bit late now to undo the new construction but maybe I can incorporate something similar in front seeing as it seems shutters are out! ;)) you think new lamps are hung in the wrong place? hmmm .. I had to lose the big security light that was in the middle yuck. I do plan to replace the old lamp post with landscape lights , I agree with you that that will look much better! might move the lantern down the hill .

What about painting the tongue and groove ceiling and trim a high gloss white or off white I know this T&G is in a bedroom but you get the idea:) I would have the knotty alder in this color. Medium tone with a chocolate glaze that would match concrete flooring. The high gloss T&G would be more modern and the cabinets and flooring more rustic. Good luck!
