This is how I tie in any lanky stems that are close to walls (and also train my climbers) It sets strong and holds the weight of a cane very well considering I bend them sideways.

If you don't want to attach anything to the brick I would suggest some type of obelisk that you can tie it to.

@billy- On Magnus's comment, the first word "this" in green is the link to the product. It worked for me on my phone. That looks like a pretty discreet way to do it.
