Adding retro curb appeal to very plain 60’s ranch.

My husband and I just bought our first home and the interior is beautiful and my decor ideas are endless. Perfect untouched 60’s style. However, the exterior leaves us unexcited and we’re having a hard time envisioning what to do. We discussed addbig breeze blocks, changing the front door out and adding new house number plus obvious landscaping. What would you do to spice it up?

Between the shade and the distance, it is difficult to see the house. Can you stand about 15’-20’ straight our from the front door and take more than one photo so we can see the whole width of the house closer in? Perhaps 3 or4 photos spanning across the front of the house.

From what is visible, I would re,I’ve the hedges across the front and either replace the posts or give them a beefier appearance using a surround for them.

I will get one when I can! We actually bought remotely and won’t be moving for a couple months. Thank you for your comment. The best I could do is try to zoom in and brighten it up a bit.

I take that back, these are a bit better, I think.

Could you ask the realtor for better photos?

    Yes! I can do that.

Get a vintage 60s car and park it in the driveway.

Ooooo, the dreaded driveway-up-to-what-used-to-be-a-garage. Is there a way to move the driveway to the left? Or at least end the driveway before it reaches the new screened-in porch, adding in some type of landscaped bed.

Hahaha!! Yes, Kitasei. If money were no object I‘d be on it! I hadn’t even thought about the driveway to the screen porch littlebug! My husband would much rather have a garage or at least a carport, so that’s been discussed too.

Perhaps a screened porch can get added out back at some point using some of the current materials so the car port can return to its original function. Until you live there, it is difficult to judge the necessity for a screened outdoor area. There may be zillions of mosquitoes.

IMO a carport would be a better choice for that house . Remove the shutters and get a new front door MCM and no country screen door. A phantom screen will allow the same air flow.Check out some MCM landscaping ideas Change the walkway to come from the street to the front door. This is a neat idea for landscaping

Congrats on your first home. I have a small house also. The entire front was covered with large bushes. Instead of a porch roof it had a metal awning that was falling off, and so on. No curb appeal at all. Over the years, and on a very limited budget I have tried to make it as "cute" as possible.

This photo is "testing" the possibility of painting it from grey to a lilac-grey.

Best of luck. I look forward to watching your progress.

I just noticed a patch of grass between the walkway and the house. Definitely turn that into a perennial garden. That space is calling out for plantings, not lawn!

Landscaping and the return of the porch to a carport would be prime for me. I don't like to sit out where the passing public can see me. Try a deck or screened gazebo out back. A new front door and removal of the hedges would be a good starting place.

So many great suggestions and all in agreement which helps! Thank you all so much! We’re excited to get there and get started!
