Also, it's important to choose coordinating elements in the room in which they'll be used so I'd bring counter samples home. Lighting is everything when evaluating colour. White in the showroom might look yellow or grey in the house, etc.

Backsplash doesn't need to be decided right away. You can wait until the countertops are installed to choose. The same material for counters and backsplash can be a nice modern look.
