Entryway Help - Rug, art, fake tree?

I need a rug in this entryway first off - but I believe the rug I bought is too bright and encroaches too much into the walkway (entryway connects two halves of the house so constant traffic). Should I get a runner and put it the long way against the door wall? We need a good sizes rug (bigger than 2'x3') as we get a lot of dirt dragged in the front door. And some shoes left there. I am going to have someone make me a braided rug so I can choose the colors.

I also would like to brighten the space up - the decor is kind of dark. Would you put art on the brick wall too? I will be painting the wall Gossamer Veil by SW and will eventually have white trim.

Finally, I am thinking a tree in the corner by the mirror and entry to warm the space up. At one point I was thinking a console table, or a short bench under the mirror, but now I think sparsity is better - not so cluttered. I keep going back and forth. Maybe a short bench and a tree under the mirror?!?

Any suggestions?

    Happy Friday Jen!

I like the direction that you're going in, at least you know which way you want to go!

    1. I say yes to changing the art. Do you have an overall color scheme in the house? If not, I would go with a blueish/greenish piece since you have the brick and dark floors. If you have a scheme, stick with that and complementing colors.

    2. If your hallway is bigger than 3ft wide, you can probably add a bench and still have room. If it's not 3ft, I would not do the bench.

    3. A runner would be great, your space looks like it could fit a 2x8ft - 2x12ft runner.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

IMO a bench with some shoe storage underneath on one side and a console table on the other side of the door Lower the mirror so that you can actully see yourself and a larger piece of art over the console and if you electrical a lamp on the console some fresh flowers ( I buy mine at the supermarket every week) and pleease no fake trees or flowers. Also the addition of a nice light fixture would be great. Yes alerger mat id a must and one outside the door made of some materil that can be hosed off will catch alot of the muck. Chilewich has some great mats.IMO a braided rug really does not work in that space from what I can see.

Patricia Colwell Consulting - So console table to the right of the door with large art over it? And a lamp and flowers?

    Then bench under mirror?

Longer non braided rug under door?

    Like this crude drawing?

rittany Lyons Art and Interiors, LLC - The hallway is a little over 6ft so we have the space I think. My color scheme is grays, blues, and that's about it LOL

    Thank you!

What about matching table/shoe storage with something above? I feel as if I would want symmetry here...

Here’s a quick mock up using random furniture I have. I like console table but needs to be more shallow. And towel as rug lol. Do you think it looks like too much shoved in a space? Or more homey?

What about a round rug for a change from all the squares/rectangles...

Check out washable rugs from ruggable.com. Runner down the hall and a 5x7 for your entry space. Lots of styles and color to choose from. Lower art so it centers 5' above the floor or hangs 5" above furniture pieces.

Different looks depending on your style and the color of your furniture in adjoining spaces. No fake plants, but more art work, perhaps a long mirror on that wall, or an very modern or antique chair would add interest much more than a fake plant.

So I chose some pieces for the entryway. Thought I’d update. Feels much more homey! My only concern is the picture is as wide as the console table. Is that a no no? Should I look for something less wide?

There are a lot of hard edges for the entryway. Doors (even its windows) and windows are already rectangle, as is the space. The mirror, console table and rug are also long rectangles. I would do a large runner that fits the entire space, or a large half round rug that goes from outside window edge-in front of door-to other outside window edge. You console is pretty but you could use a larger piece since the opening next to it is wide. I liked the depth of your first table, but don't think it was long enough. It was also another rectangle. If no half circle rug at entrance, a demilune table would be nice. I also think Beverly's suggestions are nice.

Did you get a real tree? As long as the door doesn't get flung open, you could place a live low light plant closer to the window.

Beverly- put your suggested arrangement on brick wall in addition to my current console table? So they’d be across from each other?

The tree is real! My husband agreed to take care of it. My thumb is black and I also refuse to be responsible for another living thing. Three tiny humans, a dog, fish, and 8 chickens is enough!!

The rectangle problem.....I will try and find a long oval rug. I’m worried that it won’t be narrow enough and will be in the walking path since this is also a hallway from one half of house to the other.

If you're doing a long rug, it can be rectangle. I don't think they even make a runner with rounded ends. LOL Why don't you want a runner within the walking path? That's what I would do. You can have a small rug just inside the door for wet feet.
