Help me decide on a wood look tile, have to purchase tomorrow!

Hi all, I have a 1959 ranch-style house in Florida, about 1450 sq ft, so not big. I’m having the ugly older tile replaced with a wood-look tile. when I’m done with all my remodeling, I’d like the house to have a clean and bright feeling.

I‘ve found that most of the wood look tiles have a matte texture that drives me nuts (not in a good way). To me the worst feeling is a piece of unfinished wood (like a wooden kitchen spoon...*shivers*) And that’s what these tiles remind me of. So it’s been difficult to find tiles that I can live with. Anyway, here are the 2 that made the cut.

The lighter one (“1st” choice) is what my family likes. the texture is better than the others but not what I would like it to be. It’s called “Bradford Natural” from F&D. The darker one is “Acacia” from Lowe’s, and has the slightly glossy texture that feels better to me but I worry it will be too dark or too red.

Whatever I choose will be in my whole house except the bathrooms. Kitchen cabinets will be the IKEA Bodbyn off-white, and I’m strongly leaning to Atlantic Salt quartz countertop. attaching a pic of that too with a butcher block counter next to it.

Opinions? Here I’ll attach a few other pics to show the style and feeling I’m after.

Of those 2, I agree with your family. The lighter one is best

I, too, like the looks of the lighter, but if it's a texture that you hate, I'd suggest not going with it. Every time you step on it you'll cringe! I can't imagine that. I also have some texture issues (the fuzz of a peach?!?!? NOooooo!) and sure wouldn't want to have to touch it multiple times a day.

My advice? Don't buy what you don't like simply because it looks good. There are many other options. For example, how about real wood as opposed to something made to look like wood?

We have 5 dogs so we’re limited in what will work and not get destroyed instantly. Sure would love to have real wood though.

Lighter . The afraid The darker would look too busy & reddish on a large surface.

Look at the wood that has the picture of the sea glass you have displayed. Looks more like the Acacia.

Why are you limited to those choices? There’s a big world of choices available from professional flooring supply houses. Your pro installer should put you in touch with them. He is assured of better quality materials with less warping and you get hundreds more choices.

they advised we would get the better prices at F&D while still being a decent quality. I hope that’s true, but with our schedule I don’t think we’d have time to order tile and have it shipped From another supplier.

I am personally drawn to the one I think you are calling acacia, to me it looks like a nice old fashioned floor.

acacia is very busy. I had natural wood acacia. if you use that, then everything else above it should be somewhat neutral.

    lowes-acacia

I like the lighter ones on the right better. much better for decorating.

this is the lighter one in a large room

is this the look you want? seems a bit busy.

    maybe:

Carolina Ash wood plank porcelain 6x36

if you want darker, what about this one?

or, instead of a wood look tile flooring, why not a large, neutral tile along these lines? make sure it's a larger type,,,24x24 is this size:

something like this will stay in style a lot longer than those wood-look. If you aren't spending money on a really good quality wood-look tile, they can look somewhat on the cheap side. Since your flooring choice will stay w/you for as long as you're in this house, don't you want something that won't be dated in a few years?

this one is nice. in stock and on sale

I would prefer your families choice of the two. My question would be how many repeat patterns are there in this tile? Florida is a candy store of tile options and I’m not sure if you are new to the state but you should check all this options! I have come across some wood look tile that I even liked! ( although pricey but very beautiful!) there are so many tile stores and “ wholesale “ places that you might shop. Yes it takes effort but can be worth it! I would want it to look real, have lots of variation in the pattern from piece to piece, small grout lines.

I agree with Beth, you would be better off with a large format square or rectangular tile. They have lots at F&D. What you will most likely end up with is a wood look floor with grout lines like this! A dead giveaway and unattractive!

Instead of a floor that looks like this!

I looked at all the tiles and either they were too expensive, didn’t like the look, or didn’t like the texture. :( I went ahead and ordered the Bradford Natural and crossing my fingers it turns out Ok. Thanks everyone!

Here’s the floor, all done! You can definitely see the grout lines lol, and I‘m pretty sure you will not mistake this tile for real wood but I actually love it! If I could do it over, I

might have chosen a slightly darker grout but oh well. I think it will meet our needs nicely. Thank you everyone for your help!

I like the lighter colored one the most! Most of our clients are going with lighter colors.
