Help choosing kitchen faucet- traditional style

I would like a pull down kitchen faucet and might go with the Kohler artifacts series. Also looked at Newport Brass which is twice the price. I browsed On-line for Waterstone which seem like more than I want to spend. Are there any others similar to the Kohler and Newport that look a bit traditional? I would like some traditional styling rather than sleek. What I hesitate about on the Kohler is the bulbous part at the base. Pics are of Kohler artifacts series and a Newport Brass.

If you want quality, choose Newport Brass. They are made in the USA and have brass fittings instead of plastic. They will last forever.

Thanks, they seemed very solid indeed.

No longer true about Newport Brass. That was how Newport Brass *used* to be. I myself have a 15-year-old Newport Brass faucet in a half-bath and it’s really great. But Newport Brass was bought by the huge company Masco. Newport Brass faucets are now made with Chinese parts, though still assembled in California. Check out their rating on Better Business Bureau too.

I have the Kohler Artifacts faucet in polished chrome. I really love the 3 sprays, and also think it’s a beautiful faucet. But I am not under illusions and today nothing is made with the quality of even 10 years ago. I understand that the Artifacts line of faucets is one of the few faucets that Kohler still makes in Kohler Wisconsin.

Oh interesting. Thanks for the info.

I'll second M Miller's statement. I used Newport Brass in 2 bathrooms about 3 years ago and I would not recommend them. All of the set screws in the faucets and bath accessories regularly come loose. I keep a hex key at my desk and go around every few weeks and tighten everything up. I have NEVER had any other brand do this for every single item that was installed. They do look pretty though ... but I hate them every time I do my maintenance rounds!

You need to up your budget in order to get a quality faucet. Forget the pull down spray - get a side spray - far more useful, easier to use, and less likely to break.

I’ll definitely think about it but we have a pull down sprayer now and it’s so easy to use.

We’ve had a separate sprayer and a single faucet/sprayer and I prefer the single faucet/sprayer for its ease and convenience. Also it doesn’t require extra fabrication in the countertop drilling a separate hole for a sprayer.

I do not agree with the rec above to get a separate sprayer. They are more prone to problems, do not have as good pressure as an integrated sprayer, you have to hold the handle to keep the spray on, and you need another hole cut in your counter.

I have liked my Hansgrohe Allegro Pro, but I've seen bad reviews of it - there are bad stories about every brand I think.

I'll have to echo what others have said. I've had a separate side spray for decades, with different counters, sinks and faucets. When I bought the new house, I had a chance to use an integrated spray because that's what was there and much prefer it now to the side spray. The kitchen is gutted now, but will be going with an integrated spray with the new faucet. I'm leaning towards the Brizo Artesso linked to above. Brizo is the premium line from Delta. I don't know if 'premium' means anything more than higher prices, as far as construction goes.

I prefer a side spray too. But the Kohler artifacts has a plastic sprayer. I love the Danze Opulence single handle with side spray for a traditional look. I like the Rohl English Countryside pull down faucet. It's not too bulky. I just ordered a pull down faucet and faucet with a side spray for my new kitchen. Both are Waterstone. I had Waterstone at my last home, love the solid feel of them.

We have had Blanco, Kohler and Moen faucets in the course of renovating two houses. Blanco kitchen faucet was expensive garbage, a Kohler bathroom sink faucet was so problematic that I gave in (despite lifetime parts warranty) and replaced it with a Moen which 15 years later is still going strong. In my first kitchen, I replaced the Blanco with a Moen (traditional styling ). With the last kitchen remodel, I went with another traditional looking Moen for the kitchen sink and a Kohler bar sink faucet which, so far, has been fine. For what it’s worth, all the plumbers have admitted that they put mostly Moens in their own homes!

I actually considered the Kohler above and ended up choosing a Moen Noell.

Thank you guys. All of this is helpful. I really wish the Newport Brass brand wasn’t having problems- aesthetically I loved those in the showroom. I think I’ll go to one other showroom today. I’d love to see the Brizo Alesso (and others) in person. Does anyone else have/ like a Waterstone pull down?
I went to the showroom and I like the Brizo Alesso as well as the Rohl Gotham pull down spray- it was 18” height so maybe too large scale? The delta Cassidy pull out spray was also nice. Attaching pics of all 3 if anyone is interested.

I have the second pic, the Rohl, at our beach house. We've had it for a year. It's pretty. The pull down feels a little plasticky and doesn't always stay well docked. I wouldn't purchase it again.

Thank you for the feedback. :)

The Moen Noell is also simple and pretty too.

If anyone is also making faucet decisions- I liked the Grohe Bridgeford. It’s slightly shorter than most of the others I was looking at. I think the handle has a nice traditional look to it. (Pics from the showroom)

Stephanie, what did you end up deciding? I am at the point of the ridiculous with this decision and driving myself (and my DW) mad. I looked at the Artifacts (and really like it, actually, except for the plastic head) but then read that Kohler is fighting to take over wetlands in WI to build yet another golf course, so no Kohler for me. I'm considering the Brizo Artesso and Talo; Newport Brass Taft; Moen Woodmere, Weymouth, and Notch; and the Axor Montreaux is still in the running but perhaps a tad too industrial looking. I like the all brass construction, solid feel, and style of the Newport Brass Taft and found it on sale for $546 (I think an amazing price). The others are of course less $$ which does matter. We have pretty hard water so I'm concerned that whatever we put in will need to be repaired/replaced periodically. I had looked at the California Faucets Davoli (our all-around favorite, actually) but haven't found a sale price I can swallow yet. I need to make a decision; countertops go in about 10 days from now and I need to have a faucet.

Hi! I decided to buy the Grohe Bridgeford. I love it except for the fact that I wish the magnetic mechanism was stronger and held the sprayer head more tightly to the rest of the sink when not in use. It’s slightly annoying :)

I was going back and forth between the Kohl’s Artifacts and the Grohe Bridgeford when we built our new house. I went with the Koehler and I love it. The shape is traditional enough to make me happy but blends well with our more transitional style. The sprayer is perfect with two levels of intensity.

Thanks! Really good to know about the Grohe as I looked at that one too. I love th Artifacts faucet but am bothered by the bad press Koehler is getting in WI over this wetlands issue. I’ve seen several comments on Houzz about reduced quality of the Newport Brass faucets, which is so disappointing. I really like them and they feel so solid in the showroom. I’m leaning toward the Brizo - lots of positive chatter about it. My fav is California Faucets Davoli but I haven’t found it at a price I’d consider paying yet.

I forgot to add a photo of mine with dirty dishes and all :) (Grohe Bridgeford). Good luck! I had no idea about Kohler...

Lovely kitchen (dirty dishes and all ;) )!
