@lisa - I liked all of your photos, but the ones at night were great. The colour of the blooms are so vivid! When you posted a pic of Molineaux; I got all excited thinking about mine growing soon!

@Kristine - Glad you got your eye done! My mom recently had to do two eye things. One was for a cataract, the other was more complicated - something to do with a membrane & growth? Anyways, it all went well & it's amazing the things they can do now with laser.

As for the pet poop stories, I had to laugh at all of them because I'm very familiar with these things. It's a good thing pets are so cute. I have had to clean up messes on many occasions. The worst is the long grass, fabric from toys or hairs that can pass through their system and hang around until you can aid them. The poor things just stand there squatting; looking at you pitifully for help. On a few occasions I have also found random small toys of Aidens in a poop while scooping it up. One was a torso of a lego man & another was a rubbery figurine. Let's just say Aiden did not get those toys back!

Well it snowed here again today! Nothing bad, but I'm tired of being cold. It's suppose to be a lot warmer this weekend. Actually spring like. Here's hoping!

Your garden is really maturing and turning into something that is so beautiful, Lisa! Your work and care are definitely paying off. The fragrance must be divine...

Kristine, I had to laugh at Azalea giving a big thumbs down to the auntie. It's funny, but it's not. You do need the help during your eye surgeries. But it's funny that such little people can have such big opinions.

Your two lavenders on either side of a trellis will be lovely. We must see pics when they're blooming.

Lisa, I'm going to take a good look at Easy to Grow Bulbs this evening, and I will definitely use your code if I make a purchase. Thank you for finding the name of that bulb for me. Maybe we should give our SdlMs a strong dose of alfalfa tea this year. I gave mine a big helping of manure just before winter. Mine is the climber, bought by mistake. It'll be a shrub here.

Jim, it is worth your time to go back and read those, I promise!

flowersaremusic, I've always wondered what is the difference between climbing SdlM and the bush variety?

    Colleen

Colleen, I have no idea. I didn't know there were two until my SdlM grew 10' long canes her first year from a band size. I mentioned it on one of the rose threads and was told I had the climbing version. That there was a climbing SdlM was news to me.

If my SdlM grew 10' canes from a band I'd think I'd died and was gardening in heaven!

Colleen, it did have me scratching my head. The initial canes were super long, but subsequent canes have been much shorter and not a single bloom in 3 or 4 years.

Lisa, that's a great site, and I bookmarked it for future use. Unfortunately they are sold out of things I'm looking for this season, including your Leucocoryne Andes. Great selection of dahlias and irises.

Yes, they are my go to for plants and bulbs, other than Annie’s. It’s were lots of my stuff comes from.

I took a good look at the roses out front yesterday. SdlM has buds and a beautiful bloom. I took quite a few pictures, but I just realized that I’m not in the app. Let me switch over. Lisa

I wish my lavender roses were blooming for this bouquet! These dark sweet Peas are so pretty!

Unofficially hit 90F degrees yesterday at 5:30pm!! Three thermometers read 87.5, 89 and 90 respectively. I guess spring is gone and summer has arrived! Just r

an out before the storms hit to take a picture of my 'Jayne' magnolia before the wind and rain destroys it.

90 degrees! Wow, I didn’t know it would get so hot in your zone so soon. Is this a warm spell, and then it can get cold again? That’s got to be hard on roses, and everything else. Our cool season is about over, and we may not see rain again until November or December. I’m using the drip system again, and I’m dreading the next water bill. Everything needs water, so theirs not much I can do, that I haven’t already done. Lisa

Pretty Magnolia, Ikay! I don’t see many like that around here. Lisa

This is the shade garden, mostly different kinds of Hostas and Ferns. It looks so barren!

OMGoodness, Lisa, that SdlM bloom is what I'm hoping for. It is so packed with petals. I wish I could lean in to the screen and smell the perfume. The foliage looks healthy and it's a nice shape. I'd give a lot to have a MAC as big as yours. Mine overwintered in the garage and is bursting with new growth, but I don't expect much from it in the garden based on other cold zoners experience. Cynthia is so much help because she already has just about any rose I could ever want to grow.

Beautiful magnolia, Ikaye! I love the wide canopy and I love your aged to perfection fence. Mine just won't age. This will be it's 3rd year and it still looks too new. I hope your magnolia survives the storm.

My husband's building another barn. It will cast a big shadow on my newly fenced cutting garden unless he moves it way back. And, they need to move the fence back 8-10', leaving the arbor kind of sticking out. Part of the plan is to give me more room to overwinter pots, so his heart is in the right place, even if the barn isn't. I've got to do some creative thinking.

It's not raining, so I'm spending the day outside clearing out dead wood. Can't prune yet. Nights still in the 30s. Things are greening up, finally. Hallelujah!

I had alot of Soil erosion from rains with these 2 roses so took care of that today...

Flowersaremusic, I grow MAC and it is maybe 10 feet tall. It is very flexible so in the winter I bend it down towards the ground and that seems to help keep the dieback to a minimum.

Altorama, that is music to my ears! Ten feet, wow! Do you get a good snow cover? I always have a lot of snow, even in milder winters like the last one. I was dreading giving space to MAC, but now I'm excited to plant her. I'll probably still treat her as a shrub, or climbing no higher than a short fence, then laterally. I'm so glad you told me about yours.

    I'm enjoying everyones pics! :-) :-) :-)

I'll try to find the poo stories....lol

Flowersaremusic, we don't get reliable snow coverage. Either a ton or none haha. The older the plant grows, the hardier it seems to get. It's good if you can plant her against a structure protected by North winds. Or keeping her as you planned, it will be easy to train along a fence.

I grow the bush and climbing SDLM, ctsteel. Like Flowers, the only difference I notice is the octopus canes/growth habits. The way the roses appear on the canes is different too... This pic is not from the best angle, but comparatively, the growth habits make the differences between the two obvious.

Ooo I am in love with those gorgeous sweet peas lisa !! I’m going to message you , have lots to ask but don’t want to bombard everyone else ! :)

kristine , my little one hated men with facial hair with a passion and it was something else ! Once a cashier at Kroger tried to talk to her and she shrieked in terror and tried to get out of the cart . She didn’t like my dad and maybe still dosnt since we only see them once a year ! Lol obviously Santa has not been an option since she was a newborn.

Here’s a couple of my daughter and Henry our cav . She loves bubbles but he LOVES bubbles! Lol

Dianella, your clematis blooms are so pretty, and Desdemona is so loaded with buds, I can’t believe my eyes! Wowza Wowza!

I guess I have neither the climbing or bush form of SdlM. I have the dwarf form! lol

Bubble Bath looks like it’s going to put on a big show this time. I’ve never seen it with so many buds!

how could I forget that you have bubble bath!? That looks like it's going to be a huge flush. Lisa, I'm so happy you're Gordon is doing well this year. That's meant to say Garden. You deserve it after working so hard. It would be great to see bubble bath in bloom. I had to move my two more sun and it seems happier this year so we will see once it blooms.

Lisa , I can’t wait to see bubble bath open up! I had that one when I lived in Pittsburgh . It was just a baby when I left it behind .

I cant find a message you button so I’ll keep it simple here and include my email and if you like my phone number I’ll send that in an email. I really did mean it , in the other thread .. I prayed and asked for a friend there and know God answered with you !!

What are your favorite nursery’s and they don’t have to have roses but extra stars if they do ! Do they get more in the fall or is it like here, where spring is all they’ll have ?

I have 3 arbors I’m bringing . I planned on doing them in Eden , nahema and Colette . Any thoughts on those roses ?

I have a small box of dahlias I haven’t planted yet . Will mid May be too late there ? They haven’t been opened so I thought I may just bring them and see if they took but I’m not sure .

What kind of soil is it out there? I’m sure if varies . But I’m used to clay clay clay. So I was curious if you ammended a lot ? Thanks Lisa !!!

    Jenna7473@yahoo.com

Here is my honeysuckle just about to burst . Also my lonely iris will be opening as well . Any my lambs ear is spreading like crazy which I love ! Can I grow lambs ear in Ca Lisa ? Lol

@dianela - love, love the clematis pictures! Can't wait to see your roses in full bloom, the number of buds is awesome. I completely understand being so excited about seeing your flowers, that you have to use your headlights!

@Lisa - That poppy is so neat, I've never seen one like that!

@lilyfinch - I take it you are getting a bit more excited about your move? A new garden will be fun! Love your bubble pictures, what a cute duo!

@flowers - your husband is building a barn? How much space do you have? I would be the same as you; worrying about the amount of sun/shade differences on the garden, lol!

Lilyfinch Eden is a bit stiff so you have to stay on top of training. It took mine a few years to get going but then it was always covered in blooms. I have read here some say it is hard to grow, but mine was neglected growing between and through two large ramblers. It was beautiful but too big to dig up when I moved. I will look for a pic for you.

Lily, hope you find a beautiful home with a pool and a yard you can garden! I’d dig out all the roses and move them to the new house.

Altorama, How do you get your Eden to repeat all the time? Yours is beautiful. The ones in my garden don’t repeat much. I have a big potted one which repeats some but not a lot.

I just cut off blooms because they were so pretty in a vase. At the beginning I used rosetone but then it just became neglected. I would say it took about 4 or so years to really bloom constantly. Maybe it liked being neglected hahaha.

Does anyone recognize this new growth? I can’t remember what seeds I planted in this spot.

    Gotta be one of these:

    MorNing Glory

    Forget Me Not

    Lavender

    Foxglove

    Delphinium

Lily, I love your puppy. Thats so cute that he likes to play with your daughter in the bubbles! Makes for some great photo ops lol. Have you guys found a house you like yet? Im so excited for you guys and curious to see how you create a new magical garden space!

Altorama, Your Eden is gorgeous! I have 3 but they are mostly still babies.

flowers, What will you guys be putting in the new barn?

dianela, I am looking forward to your Desdemona blooms!

wowser all these great photos! :-)

Beautiful pictures Lily. What a lovely family you have and I only imagine the joy you will bring to another life. Summers, I don't think Lily can bring any of her plants to CA. Is that correct Lily? Can you bring cuttings. If so, perhaps you could refrigerate some and root them when you get there. However, I think you be at ground zero for rose growing.

Lilyfinch, I saw your cute bubble pics on IG. Lucia is filled with such joy. She and Henry are delightful.

Lisa, you had me laughing at your dwarf SdlM. Goes perfectly with my non-blooming variety. But, your poppies! Wow! Now, that's a poppy! How long do Baby Blue Eyes bloom? Had to look up Bubble Bath. How have I never heard of that one?!

HalloBlondie, I'm going to suggest he just add on to the small barn, which is more of a big shed. It houses his ATV, snowblower, lawnmower, wagon trailer and junk. We have just under 6 acres, but the out buildings are all clumped together near the house. Not the best look.

Altorama, I'm torn between pampering my Edens and neglecting the heck out of them. Maybe I should send them to you for a few years, then you send them back to me once they get the hang of it.

Sultry, the answer to your question is - not a clue. He asked me to find some barn pics to show the builder. He said I should choose because he wants me to like it. Can't be too upset with that!

Lily, you'll soon be growing things you couldn't before and your growing season will be almost year round. Only a couple hours away is Roger's Gardens in Newport Beach. You'll love all the garden bling in addition to the huge plant nursery. Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach is fun and Pageant of the Masters is incredible. There are the missions all up and down the coast. San Juan Capistrano was a favorite. If you like Mexican food, you will find that it is so much more authentic than Mexican food in the midwest. You'll love the jacaranda trees, camellias, gardenias and being able to grow your own citrus. I'd grow citrus for the scent alone. The fruit is just a bonus! Plants that were annuals in TN will be perennials in CA. You can visit Grace Rose Farm for a day trip. Sounds like they're gearing up for visitors, big time. The entire Santa Ynez area is worth staying a day or two and visiting Solvang, and a little further up the coast is Carmel and Monterey, wonderful get-a-way spots. At least, they used to be. A stop in Santa Barbara is a must. And, if you like antiquing, Summerland, just outside Santa Barbara was always a must. Not sure if it still is. Deborah would know. These places are not especially close to San Diego, but more like day or weekend trips. And, I am positively green with envy you will get to visit Lisa and Ingrid.

, flowers, you're making me want to move with that description!

Vapor, you could make a list just as appealing for the Ohio River Valley, I'm sure. Even the name sounds inviting and charming.

See you on the new thread.
