We just bought this house and appreciate your advise on top 3-5 things we need to improve curb appeal - exterior paint, roof, etc.

Beautiful house. I'm seeing a bright yellow front door.

Question for JudyG Designs - what specific paint color is the second picture gray exterior picture shown? I love the color.

Your home reminds me so much of the lovely, restored homes along Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg. Many of them have gambrel roofs and brick entrances like yours...and are directly on the street, too! Take your cue from them for color, shutter and door style, as well as railings for your entry. Good luck!

A portico and new roof would be nice

I love your house. I imagine it is quite old since it built so close to the road. I like the shutters on either side of the door, but would get larger lanterns.

I would remove all the foundation plantings along that front side of the house so you can have a nice wide walkway.

Then I would add steps to the right side of the entry so you can walk straight to the mailbox. Instead of the iron railing I would do a Chippendale wood one. This company fabricates them.

What's wrong with it as it is? Looks cute to me!

Here is a mock-up. (The yellow is a bit more intense than Sweeny Yellow, which I think would really brighten up the facade.)

Really charming! I think I might get different wall sconces that are somewhat larger than you have now. The current ones are a bit too small. The brick on the stairs could do with a good cleaning and I would also cut that shrub way back so it doesn't block the window. Get a lovely window box with annuals to hang on the stair rail facing the street and/or put window boxes on the two windows to either side of the front door.

    1. Remove big shrub that is covering the window. Live with it empty for a while and you will start to see what needs to go there. (Or post pics for us to see.)

    2. Clean the brick on stairs.

    3. Solid color front door with no glass.

    4. Larger sconces.

    5. I like the colors as is. This is a very pretty house.

I always love white homes. Just needs some new landscaping and a new color on the shutters.

I would definitely get some larger lights for either side is the door and remove that overgrown bush that hides the window on the left side of the house. If there is room, add some large, brightly colored flower pots on the front porch

I like houssaon’s Chippendale railing idea. But I made the original picture bigger and see the beautiful iron railing design that the dark door makes it hard to see. Keep the railing.
