Need help with living room set up and decor!

Hello! I recently decided to renovate our living room.I got to rearranging all of our furniture and ended up with a big mess and can't decide where to put anything. Our living room is rectangular shape, somewhat skinny but long. I like the concept of having it "open" feeling. I dont like clutter. I do have young children so have to keep it some what practical. I will get some updated pictures to post with how it is currently set up. We got a new 9'x12' rug for the area by the couches and then a 6'x9' jute rug for the opposite end of the room. Need help deciding the perfect placement as well as ideas for furniture and decor (specifically end tables). I have added some pictures to show some of the pieces that we currently have to work with.As much as I would LOVE to get rid of the over sized

"seat" my husband insist we keep it. Thanks for your help!

    Hi.

-Do yo have a tv? Thanks.

-The only item that is staying is the large chair? Correct?

Please show photos of the other 2 walls.

What I am seeing so far is that foot traffic is walking through the furniture arrangement and there is way too much furniture for the space. With more photos, I will suggest to you the best arrangement.

I will try to get a better pic of the whole room. These are old pictures. The two consoles pictured are not actually in the room anymore (they were just there until we moved them upstairs). The TV is mounted to the wall across from the sofa. The room is a rectangle shape so its hard to get the whole thing in a picture . It's about 40' by 16'.

Okay. Thanks. I don't see any consoles. I do see what appears to be a dining table.

You don't need to get the entire room in one photo. Several photos from different angles will do. Thanks! I also need to see where there are entryways and/or if it is connected to other rooms in an open-concept way.

Here are a couple more photos that I think will help give you an idea of what the space looks like.

Here are the entryways and areas with doors . The photo with two doors goes into closet and bathroom. The entryway with no door leads into kitchen and dining area.

Thanks for all of the additional photos! Here is how I would set up your space. With this new way, foot traffic avoids the furniture area. Also, you are looking out the window. I placed a dining table in the small area, but that could be whatever you want.

Sorry, I forgot about the large chair your husband wants to keep that could go across from the love seat or by the window or in the small area where I have the dining set.

Beautiful home and great seating classic modern seating pieces, which gives you a good start!

Below is a plan which might work for you, as CDR Design above has indicated. All of the dimensions are approximate. If you would like to add dimensions and send back, I would be happy to revise the plan.

This layout will give you a better flow and tighten up the zones. By relocating the tv and anchoring the main seating area with the new rug, it will delineate the function as lounging and tv watching. When you had the tv on the stair wall, the elevation of that wall is confusing and distracting with the entrance, stair, tv, hall to powder room. There was no place for your eyes to rest. You want your home to be inviting and relaxing.

To add much needed front entrance storage, Ikea has simple tall storage cabinets. See link below. It can stay at the front door where you originally had your stand, but will be a closed cabinet.

Relocate your wedding pic to the stair wall and put a narrow bench below. A beautiful bright color or print fabric would look key.

The back area is the perfect place for a kid zone and the large lounge chair. Place a window seat under the window that will accommodate a toy chest under the seat and lots of pillows. Add bookcases on either side of the lounge chair, a small table with kids chairs for games, That little corner on the left is perfect for a kids tent.

All the window treatments should be simple solid color (I like white or cream) curtain panels ceiling to floor, and full: at least 2x the width of the window and gathered tightly.

Oval ottoman and various end tables
