I am in the same zone, some of my roses are leafed out while others are not doing anything. I would wait a bit longer.

Still no growth.....

Give it time. Roses are all different and some wake up early when it's still cool and others want some real warmth before they start growing. If you're no longer having freezing nights start pruning it. Clip off small pieces from the top down and check the center of the cane. If it looks greenish white and moist it's alive. If it looks tan, brown and dried out it's dead. Take off another piece down the cane until you find that white, moist center. If it goes to the crown take it off as flush as you can but don't damage the crown. New canes can come off of that joint. So you don't want to harm it. If you bury your crowns then take it down to the soil and just wait. I think it's way too early to pronounce it dead.

I have been worrying the same thing on a few of my roses. I've had the most dieback ever this year on my older established roses (as far as I can recall). I am sure that it must be due to the prolonged spell - a few weeks -- of temps where the highs only struggled to the low 20s. We usually only have a week to ten days of such cold at the end of January.

Four of my new roses planted last summer are showing nothing so far. Another that I held over in a pot, with the pot sunk into the compost pile, is also showing nothing -- but another held the same way is leafing out.

And yet the nine grocery store mini roses, that I didn't really expect to survive in pots sunk into either the compost pile or into an empty patch of ground, all survived and are growing.

Thanks for the advice...much appreciated. I know I probably let this thing get way too big. It's at least 5 feet high along a southern-facing brick wall (never bushes outwards but rather climbs straight up) So, yeah, have to start pruning back and see how some of the branches look.
