Well that's kind of what I was thinking. I guess I should learn from experience with the other fancy opener I'm throwing out. The regular corkscrews don't take up any space and last forever.

We were given one as a gift. I thought I would be donating it, but tried it. Must say I really like it. I don’t keep it out all the time, charge if when I know we will be entertaining.

I use an air pump opener.

The last person I was talking to who had one had also received it as a gift. She seemed to like it okay - not sure how much they use it. None of the ones I saw on Amazon looked like hers.

Well, the air pump looks interesting - have never seen that before. Maybe I will try one of those though they seem to get mixed reviews as well.

Build a better mousetrap? I don't get it. Unless you have physical limitations that won't allow you to use one of the (several decent) designs of manual corkscrews available then why buy one of these gadgets?

Ours, in place at our lake cabin. (In that little space between the microwave and the refrigerator.) It will be used tomorrow. There may even be contests - manual vs. pretty blue thing.

We have an Oster. It was a gift from my in-laws, and it's been on our counter for maybe 5 years. It gets used 2-3 times per week with no issues. If we didn't have it, we'd do it the old fashioned way. But since it's there, why not?

Just what I (don't) need. A new gadget to take up space on the countertop or in a cabinet. As Annie says, the standard (and I keep one on my purse) works pretty darned well.

Not electric but I have one from Tupperware of all places that is so easy and not too bulky at all. I have even given some as gifts. I keep a standard one as well for travel.

Well I think for $17 I will try the Oster. It is has over 6000 reviews on Amazon and is one of the better ones in terms of reviews. We have a bar with a lot of unused counter space so that's not a concern. If I had to put it in my kitchen I definitely wouldn't get it as I don't like much stuff on my counters. If it doesn't last I won't get another. Thanks for the feedback - always helpful and interesting to hear others' perspectives.

We bought one like this in Italy, and it is what I like best. We paid a lot less than $75 for it, but it's what the waiters in Italy used. It's basically the same design as what Annie posted. Ours says "Frescobaldi" on it.
