Wallpapering the back of an antique hutch

last year

I would like to wallpaper the back of an antique hutch in my kitchen. My builder and wallpaper hanger are discouraging this idea because the wood in the back of the hutch will shrink and swell (as wood does) and will either wrinkle or tear the paper. I feel like I see the backs of bookcases and hutches papered all the time on Houzz and in magazines. Am I missing something? Should I just ignore my builder and ask the wallpaper hanger to do it anyway? Thanks for any help!!
