What do I do with space above fireplace? And below tv?

Needing advice on how to decorate this area. Ugh. I’ve bought Items and have taken pics but not sure. A few friends suggested filling entire space above with a mirror. others have suggested round mirrors. My hope was a rectangular mirro...

Not a rectangle. If it’s art, it might have to be set forward and lit up. Keep trying.

Sorry, one more thing: how about a textured or patterned wallpaper or different paint in that space?

That's a deep alcove to the right of the fireplace. Stacked wood seems to make the most sense, but not when you have a gas fireplace. What's behind that wall? I might be tempted to place an cabinet for all the TV/Stereo equipment flush with the wall there and access the back side from the other room so its not wasted space. How old his the home, maybe that space was designed for one of those thick projection TVs?

The home was built in 2000. Such an odd space

I’d call a glass company and have some antiqued/ distressed mirror cut to fit it perfectly, then prop up a pretty smaller painting, or arrange a small collection, but nothing that filled up the nook.

But if you’d rather hang a mirror, it would be easier, I’d first paint it out to match the wall, it already draws attention, by being big and deep, you don’t need a different color to add emphasis

Interesting space. You’ve got to make sure what ever you do your eye can rest a little. I love the idea of firewood displayed under tv - adds a natural textural element even tho it’s a gas fireplace?). Above the fireplace you could add some details - antique books, candle, greens, etc.

Of the three pictures I think I would go with the clock because of it’s shape. You don’t need another rectangle.

the cable box in front of the vs hurts my eyes-- i would pull the tv out to the front and hide the cable box behind it -- cable boxes can have an adapter added that is a small discreet eye for using the remote i searched "cable box eye extender" on amazon and there were several

I like the clock grouping best.

For the tv, I’d like to see the rest of the room, but my thought is, what if we ignore the inset and simply put a solid tv console in front of the opening with the tv on it.

I like your second picture with the mirror vertical Yes, bring your TV to the front and put the cable box behind it if you can.

This is an interesting wall....but I would almost say, close up all those niches (unless you like them) and put your TV on a console somewhere....need to see the rest of the room before really making a suggestion.

Great suggestions! Thank you. Yes, we are moving tv to front of nook. This is the only place for tv.

    I like pic with clock.

Could you put your tv in the niche above fireplace, Put shelves where tv is now and space (under the tv now) put doors on for hidden storage?

I don't see anything interesting or beautiful enough to warrant being doubled by a mirror. Find something 3-dimensional to put inside, and light them up with LEDs while you're at it. Try sculpture, trios of vases, large colored glass decor.

I didn't read all the replies...all I can say is who in the heck signed off on that design!! Talk about complicating things for the poor homeowners.

Could you take a picture further back so we can see both side walls?

    And opposite wall

In this set, the first picture makes the alcove next to the fireplace not near as deep. I think I would look for a low console and put the TV there, but that doesn't help with what to do with the top two. Good luck!!

    Not a Pro.

I agree with above about the tv.

Above the fireplace I would put a painting over the top of that alcove. From the pictures it looks like there is a ledge, so the art can be place over the top and it will appear that it is on a wall. The other alcove I would add shelves, or a sculpture, lighted up as suggested above.

On my monitor, I don’t like the look of the mirrors because it’s too much glass over glass (the fireplace glass). It needs a different texture and a different shape. Under the tv, I’d do one or two great big bins or baskets and fill with wood, or a bunch of lush blankets or pillows.

Tv on a console in front of where it is now. Books in the alcove where the tv is now. Add a shelf and make it a library look.
