How do you transplant net pot to net pot?

Hi,

So I tried a tomato from 4“ soil pot and transplant to 3” net pot with hydroton. I used Kratky method mason jar, after 3 weeks, it grew to 2 feet tall and ton of roots. So I removed it from the 3”

pot and lost a lot of roots when transferring to 6” net pot. Next day, all branches are wilted

so I cut them all down.

Is there a correct way of doing this with out cutting down the plant or shocking it?

Hind sight, I guess I should have sacrificed the 3” net pot and cut it out but I was trying to be

frugal. :-)

I will be doing a chili pepper from 3” net pot to 6” net pot, don’t want to make the same mistake.

Lastly, this hydroponics is mainly for fun? I read full grown tomato plant can suck 5 gallons of

water per day? That gets quite costly in nutrient solution for few tomatoes?
