Home Office Chair

I need to buy a chair to go with father in law’s antique desk which we inherited when he passed away. Here are pictures of desk and small office space. Office will be painted all white with floors stained in dark walnut l. I am planning on buying a rug to go under desk. Suggestions on that are also welcomed!

Beautiful desk. I would start by measuring the opening space so you know how wide of a chair will fit. It looks small to me but it might just be the angle of the photo. Also, what is the height of the opening if you wanted something with arms.

What will you be doing at this desk? Work on a laptop, desktop, bill paying or is it more of a non-functional space?

I suspect you will be best off looking for something that is antique and will compliment though not match the desk.

I certainly would not paint it white unless you want to cheapen it completely.

No I won’t paint it white!!!! The room walls will be white not the desk! LOL
The space will be used for working on a laptop, bills paying. Light office work.

This chair is expensive but very comfortable and durable. This price includes soft casters for hardwood floors and an attached seat pad. Knoll offers a designer discount so if you are working with a designer you can buy it for less.

I like mixing modern furniture with antiques but I know that doesn’t appeal to everyone.

Your desk is beautiful! We have also been fortunate to inherit antique furniture that has been passed down from our grandparents. :)

Thanks Carolae. I was thinking more of an upholstered or leather chair.

Will you be floating the desk in the center of the room or will it be against a wall as it is in the photo? What colors are in your home? With the tone if the woods a rich green would look lovely or blue.

IDK whats up with the pictures again.....

If you are keeping the walls white have you considered painting the built in cabinets and shelves? Or at least the back of the shelves? As I said above a rich green would be pretty

Pink peony love your ideas!!!! I am keeping the walls and built in white. The sconces are these. Maybe I should do drapes and upholstered chair in off white linen. And buy one of the rugs you suggested...

If the walls are white and the chair is off white and the shelves are white they are all at risk of receding into one another. If you take the room in that direction , and I can picture it, but I think you need to add some texture. Consider the following.

How do you want your office chair to function?

I am just finishing a remodel which includes an office area which is visible from the living room so I wanted a really nice looking office chair. I also wanted it to be functional - a chair without casters that can't roll easily doesn't work for me. The upholstered chairs shown also wouldn't work for me in terms of comfort as I wanted support in the appropriate places as well as the ability to adjust a chair in the manner that most high quality office chairs can.

I wound up buying a chair from RFM Seating and I love it. I selected teal blue faux ostrich skin so it's functional as well as attractive as it complements the blue tones I have in my living room. The chairs all have options so that one can select depth and width of seat.

There are a lot of styles - some more officey than others. I drove to the distributor in my area in order to test drive a chair and I am extremely happy with my purchase. It was the only place where I didn't have to sacrifice aesthetics for functionality completely.

Lets try again LOL! Some days this site is going to be the death of me.

If you want to use creams on white I think you would greatly benefit from more texture. I would wallpaper the walls in a grasscloth in cream

Absolutely will have to have an area rug just so you can find the desk vs that very dark floor. And lots more light than that lone wall sconce.

The room will have a lot of lite. I don’t have new pictures yet but it now has French doors to the patio. And yes I will buy a rug.
