New Furniture has Arrived.. need help please...

The furniture has just arrived... I started posting and lurking right when it was ordered so now I can get started. I will take a picture of what it looks like right now and then i will add a few with items that I purchased . Please let me know what works, what doesn’t, I can return the decor (not the furniture)

I am in need of help with:

Decor -Love teal and anything that can bring this living room together
Ottoman or ottomans - we use them to put our feet up , extra seating and would love some storage as a Bonus
End table or tables
Curtains and or blinds
Lamps -no lamps ? (We have plenty of overhead recessed lighting so lamps would be for decor )
Additional seating ?-we were hoping for accent chair but doesn’t seem to fit

Thank you so much ! I find your help invaluable!

Thank youuuuu Grover...I tried to order the teal world market and they are not available on line or a location near me...Do you have any other suggestions on the teal? I see these at Crate and Barrel... but they are not lumbar

Since I have the two pillows already, how many of each should I order?

I am thinking about 2 Archives and 1 Clairmont. How many were you thinking? (I probably only need 2 total but not sure if visually it would be uneven without each end of the sofa having an end table? Thanks for the visual BTW!

Are you handy at making pillows? Just saw this on Ballard's clearance page: fabric

Great looking tables but are they the sizes needed? & Where did all the upholstered pieces land?

    hollybar,

The tables fit height wise with the furniture. We are trying out the recliners in different places and what works best for tv viewing. I think I like the recliners on the wall opposite the windows but having the recliners at the pony wall works as well. We need an ottoman though to really be comfortable while using the sofas

I would order two of each pillow, so with the two you already have, that would make eight altogether. I do think you want lumbar pillows on the recliners, though. Try these from C&B:

Sounds good Grover...just want to clarify that the 2 I have already are lumbar. So I will have 2 (20 inch) and the rest lumbar (6)?Shouldn't I have 4 20 inchers? Just want to make sure, the pillows become pricey so I don't want to mess up.

I didn't realize the current pillows were lumbar pillows. They need to be paired with the white/mustard pillows and a plain teal square pillow. Then the teal shibori pillows on the recliners. So go for the C&B square teal pillow you found above (unless you can find something better on etsy).

Here's a teal pillow search on etsy: https://www.etsy.com/search?q=teal%20pillow

Try to find something plain with a little texture.

Grover , would you be so kind as to do a mock-up of the the new mirror I haven’t put on the wall yet . Unfortunately I think the big picture is a little too overpowering on the fireplace. Could you change the picture to above the recliner’s. Thank you !! The next thing we have decide upon is Ottomans and what type and color . Storage /Just pools ext
Thanks forever all of the pillows are ordered and I ordered one our current end table. I still would like the other one but I’m thinking about it (Claremont )

Novice, I can put the canvas over the recliners, but you have to give me a shot of the mirror if you want it over the fireplace.

    Not sure of the size...

Grover here you go : I was thinking the picture over the sofa (which may be the recliners when I move them back) and the mirror over the loveseat (which may be the sofa when I move it back) The fireplace is just empty right now. The picture looked ok but just overpowered it a bit . Thanks!

I'm not sure what goes where anymore, but here is the mirror...or at least part of it.

Grover, That is the place , thank you !!!
Grover, That saved us putting up the mirror. I think it looks to blah and too matchy with the loveseat . I am on the hunt for something “lighter” as you suggested .

This mirror might not be big enough. (I just realized what a huge mirror you need there.) I'd go pretty plain on the lamps, more contemporary than traditional. Here's a bit of gold.

Got it Grover! I will return the mirror. Funny thing about the boat basket..I actually had that same one from Pier 1 at one point and thought it was big so exchanged it for a silver basket. I will look up the dimensions on the mirror you posted. I don't have to have a mirror but was all I could think of. BTW..the Archive table and all the pillows are on order. (2 weeks for the Etsy orders) . Thanks for all of your help and visuals!

I think it is a little bit empty and plain at your sofa area now, so I'd suggest a tea table with your sofas surrounded. Seeing your home design, I think this style perfect matches.

Also some wall paintings could be adorable. Some mental arts, shelf with some gadgets are considerable. And the most common one is a photo wall.

You can choose to make it a live painting with a digital photo frame to make it art.

Besides, I always think a well-planned fireplace decoration can be eye-catching, as it is the first place when your friends step into your home.

The pillows are finally here ! Grover ... see if this is what you were thinking ?

I have attached what I have so far

None of these pictures or decorations have to stay. I may have teal or tacky overload with the decor. I don’t even think that I like the decoration in between the windows but it seems to incorporate together all of the colors and I saw it in the store and thought I would try.( perhaps curtains will help a bit.)

I still need an ottoman or ottomans (I am saying it plural because the family sitting in both the loveseat and couch are asking (bunch of lazies lol ) , curtains , something for the mantel and working on the end tables . Grover .. do you still think teal for the ottoman?

    Thanks everyone!

It's getting there. That space between the windows is a bit problematic. I think if you did curtains on those windows, you might forgo anything on that wall.

I think the canvas behind the recliners is too small. Try setting it on the mantel and just leaning it rather than hanging it.

Let me do a couple of renderings and you can see what you think. Back in a bit.

Sounds good Grover, thanks !.. the photo in between the recliners in not terrible in person as bad as it looks in my other photo.. Here it is on the mantel .. maybe too big ?

I added plain linen curtains, lowered the plates a bit, then installed some ottomans for your consideration.

This last ottoman also comes in a teal, but the color seems to clash with your pillows so I'm not going to post it.

I like that canvas better on the mantel than on the big wall where it gets lost. I think you need an oversized canvas on that wall.

    How high is your ceiling?

    Make a statement.

9 foot ceilings. I like the curtains and the ottomans. I have 2 ottomans (storage) I was looking at I will post them with the colors. I think a storage ottoman would be helpful for us. Thanks Grover

The secomd choice is sunbrella performance tan. The crate and barrel , I can get close to teal. I also would like 2 more ottomans for the loveseat. Maybe something like this from Ballard

Why do you have so many pillows on the sofas? It looks too cluttered and almost impossible to sit on the without having to throw most of them on the floor.

Some of us sit on them..they are feather and the rest of us will put them on the side which is why I would like to get a storage ottoman

You're going to have to be careful with the teal. Your pillows and your plates tend to have a teal that leans more green. The C&B ottomans lean blue. The Ballard ottoman seems to be a better color. If you go that way, order swatches first.

And I think you need to occupy more space on the recliner wall.

I’d extend your curtain rods out from the windows and the drapes would fill in more of the space above the sofa. The yellow in the throw pillows don’t work for me.

Grover, I understand what you’re saying about the teal leaning towards Green and I agree. I received the pillows from crate and barrel and that was the first thing I was thinking was that they were leaning toward green a bit . I actually do have swatches! The Ballard designs ottoman is the tan(seems to have both brown and beige) and is a higher priced sunbrella . The teal (ish ) is from crate and barrel . Thank you for the renditions!

Grover .. I wanted to show you all the pillows you suggested in your recommendations together . It is a match of your rendering and the two teal colors are a decent match

Oakronmom , I certainly can extend out the curtains .. The yellow pillow with suggested byGrover to pull out the yellow in the other pillow and in the picture

Can you draw out to scale the size of the room with all measurements and also measure the sofa, loveseat and two chairs?

From what I can see, Beverly's arrangement in terms of furniture would be best. (All furniture should NOT be against the walls. You want to create groupings so people can chat.)

You need to get that right and then an play with the rest. Grover has some excellent ideas for bringing in color, texture, etc.

Novice, the teal swatch from C&B does look like it goes well with the teal pillows. I'm actually more interested now in the swatch from Ballard. Can you put both swatches next to all four pillows on the sofa in your last photo? That tan ottoman from Ballard reads yellow and may be the extra spark we need.

Or not. The Ballard tan ottoman disappears into the carpet. I think the ticket is a teal ottoman in the right color teal. If the Crate & Barrel teal is more green like the pillows, that's the way I'd go.

Or perhaps a lighter teal... This is the Janeen from Wayfair.

    Cpartist..
Here is the furniture moved and I certainly can do that . I had it like that for a while and I don’t know how much the family was digging it. The loveseat people are hoping for something to put their feet on and the sofa people would like an ottoman. This arrangement still didn’t seem to work for them to share. It also does make the living room look smaller which is not a bad thing, just something I noticed

Grover, I do you actually have a teal that did work better from crate and barrel and here it is in the picture next to the one that you have already seen. The problem with it is it left a water spot when i tested it and the cleaning code is an S which I wasn’t crazy about. The Second picture is the Ballard and it does seem to have a bit of yellow in it . It actually pulls together the recliner color and the sofas as well. My second and third picture or just individual swatches that I collected. I did notice that the crate and barrel Ottoman is on casters and the Ballard is not. The casters are helpful for moving it around. I really would like to have it as storage if possible

My suggestion regarding the pillows is that if you want to introduce some teal into the room, that you get something lighter than the teal pillows you have. The dark teal on the dark sofa just looks bland. Also, I don't see the yellow. Maybe if yellow was incorporated into a pillow that has some teal in it, might work. As it is now, it looks random to me. I would purchase the ottoman that you like and THEN find the pillows that work with it. Not the reverse. And do extend your curtain rods.

How about one of those large upholstered ottomans that do double duty? This way both can put their feet up.

The important thing with seating is making it easy for everyone to be able to converse without having to shout across the room. Once everything is in, with the excellent help from grover for extras, I think you'll all be much more comfortable with the arrangement.

It sounds like everyone wants an ottoman or footstool for him/herself. Maybe look at part teal, part leather, one large ottoman and a couple of cubes or stools. I'd like to see some contrast between ottomans and carpet which is why I'm leaning away from the tans.

I'd like to see some legs in here, though. Everything's getting a little massive. This cute leather stool is from Pottery Barn. Kinda pricey, though.

This is where I think if I were to have cubes or stools at the loveseat, it would help if I move the loveseat back toward the wall.

I actually have 2 of these coming in this color. I thought I would hide them on the side but I could always use and move them when not needed and do the teal ottoman. They do blend into the carpet though. I could change it to smoke, they haven't arrived yet. I did see the ocean in person and it is very blue and not teal at all.

Not sure I understand the function for all these ottomans in this arrangement..... If people are on the sofa with their feet on a long ottoman, how do the two people on the loveseat use their individual ottomans?

I know you want storage, but your seating is so bulky, an ottoman with legs will look so much better. Maybe you could rethink this?

    Grover ,

I understand what you are saying . It is an issue of function vs fashion . I am really need a place to put a few things but it is killing the look . I get it .. it will look around ! Have a great Memorial Day everyone !
