My rose photo won an award!

Hello Rose Friends - I've been enjoying so many lovely photos of your fabulous spring roses!

Yesterday was my rose society's annual show. I just bought a new camera and was hoping to get a decent pic I could enter in the photo exhibition, something I've never done before. I was shocked but very happy to win the overall best photo for Mitsouko, a 1970 HT Delbard (France). Although I did well with the roses I exhibited, I was most happy with the photo award.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your kind word.

Erasmus - I bought a Fujifilm X-T3. It’s a great lightweight camera that has some manual controls reminiscent of my old Nikon film camera. It looks vintage but is quite up to date. Another reason I bought Fujifilm is that their cameras and lenses cost much less than Nikon or Canon but the quality is excellent. It’s still a challenge to learn any modern camera which is really about learning how to use a complex piece of software. I’m giving myself a year to become proficient since I’v been an iPhone camera user for so long. YouTube has been helpful with all my Fujifilm camera and general photography questions. I feel that reading how-to manuals is too slow a process for me. Videos are a quicker way to learn some technical things.

    Thanks for your kind words!

Thanks Mark! I used the 23mm lens. I have a 18-55mm and a 60mm macro lens. I keep rotating using them to learn who they work. What camera do you own and what is your favorite lens for rose photography?

    Ann,

Interesting you bought a Fuji. Christopher Kimball, of America’s Test Kitchen and Milk Street fame, said all he needed on his culinary trips was a Fuji X-T20, they take lots of closeup pics of beautiful food. I’m very much a know-nothing photographer, but I got one too, figuring I’d learn and practice on my roses.

Hi Ben - thanks for sharing the story, sorry for the slow reply! One of the factors that led me to getting the X-T3 was watching this Tony Northrup tutorial on your camera. I think it's about 45 minutes but after I watched it, I thought I could handle the X-T3.

    X-T20 tutorial

Love your photos! You're doing a great job with the camera!
