Help Improve Curb Appeal of House

Any suggestions how to improve the curb appeal of my house? It's a bit weird design as it has no windows in the front. Also part of the roof is flat and the part is pitched.

Sorry, it’s hard to tell from the pics... my first thoughts are perhaps re-landscaping is in order? Maybe something more contemporary? Idk

To my eye, the very linear nature of your house makes it best suited to modernist materials and landscaping. The brick, however, looks very traditional, as does the landscaping. I think your home would look more appealing if you re-surfaced it with stucco, or linear wood and then complemented it with modernist landscaping..

While the roses-in-the-jungle theme is busy for me personally, there are probably 20 times as many people that would find it delightful, lively and exciting. I don't think it would be worth a big change unless you had reasons you haven't yet shared. Nevertheless, you could do a couple things to improve it.

In your first picture above, there are some low tree branches that look like they lean close to the driveway space. I'd evaluate those to see if any should be removed.

At the main entrance, roses are large and so close to the walk that they encroach too much into the space. And it's a bit busy for such a close up spot. I'd clear some of that out and concentrate on low ground cover and some seasonal annuals for a big heap of color.

The blank wall beyond the garage seems naked in comparison to everything else. If the canopy of a large shrub were raised above it on fan shaped trunks, it would seem more integrated into the surroundings and similar to everything else (where there is no blank wall.) Around the large trees at the front island might be bed of medium tall groundcover. (It looks like you might could grow flaming torch bromeliads or something similar, there.)

I think you've done a really good job making your windowless facade look inviting and lovely. The only thing I'd change is I would make the entrance more of a focal point, it's kinda hidden. The gates with the curlicues don't really go with the style of your house so I'd replace them with heavier wrought iron black gates. I'd also add really BIG pots on either side of the entrance gates. Perhaps plant tall pyramid shrubs in the BIG pots to add visual structure to your garden. Update light with something more modern and a bit larger scale. If possible, add another light on opposite side so the entrance has a light on both sides.

The house is fine, though Yardvaark has some good ideas for finetuning the plantings. To my eye, the problem is the sea of concrete that is the driveway. An ocean of blah. Perhaps look into Belgian block inserts, or brick edging, or stamped concrete. Maybe someone else here has a better idea?

IMO the landscaping is way too traditional for the house and too much of a good thing is still too much some really good lighting for nightime and maybe something more like this

I would probably do black planters then streamline the plantings beside the entry too.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like most of the suggestions are to make the house more modern. I think the style is eclectic as the brick and pitched roof are traditional and the rest is modern. Does it make sense to also go the other way and make it more traditional? Make the rest of the roof pitched as well and add some windows in the front?

Guess it depends on the budget and how far you want to go. My initial impression was that the house was of a more modern styling. But I could be mistaken.

Dig Doug that looks really nice. What do you recommend for the garage part?

I wouldn't mess with the architecture. Just balance it with the landscaping -- honestly, right now I see all the flowers and barely notice the house other than the entry patio. Messing around is likely to draw the eye to the wrong things...

"Does it make sense to also go the other way and make it more traditional?" What is driving the concern?

I love your house! It s so unusual and I agree looks modern or mid century to me. I think I would probably personally choose to paint the brick light. What year was the house built? I
