    Ditto...

Maybe with a bit of orange juice.... then you'd have a real tool.

Possibly with OJ, and I have been know to use Vodka for "maintenance" but have never had a wine cellar so not sure not that would work out.

What kind of maintenance are you doing? We all seem to be confused about the question.

I use vodka straight up @ room temperature for my internal maintenance and it works real good :-)

No, no - icy cold is the way to go (I keep mine in the freezer).

Since day 1 I was always accustomed to drink room temperature vodka, and as far as I know this is going for many generations back.

A while back I was at some wedding, and they wouldn't serve us room temperature vodka, we even tried to bribe the guy but he said it was against the rules so we were drinking on the rocks and next day everyone woke up with a sore throat lol.

Maybe this is why for many generations everyone drank room temperature vodka.

Well, I've got a lot of Ukrainian friends, and they swear by the freezer method (and they know a thing or two about vodka!). No ice, just very cold vodka. Mind you, they're all a bit crazy...

The reason they drink Ice Cold Vodka is to kill the taste... Not a single vodka that came from Ukraine came close to be in the world vodka competition. But one thing you cannot take away from them is they do make a real good moonshine.

I think it would be a more appropriate thing to use wine as you are cleaning your wine cellar. Maybe only use the vodka as a palate cleaner between glasses of wine. No don't clean your wooden pallets of wine with vodka. For that use only use Mr. Clean.

After a hard day of maintaining my wine cellar I prefer a good whiskey. (Lagavulin, if you're buying)

Ice cold vodka in an ice cold shot glass is a joy. I like it in the winter for some reason. I keep a small glass bottle in the freezer marked ANTIFREEZE. It's kind of sweet, almost minty, a little more viscous so it gives an interesting mouth feel, and no harshness at all. I have drunk with Russians who said 1) ice cold 2) down the whole shot, no sipping. I prefer to sip as long as it stays cold. Those guys brought some Russian vodka with a Russian label, the stuff they don't export, and it was delish.

I wonder if the OP was talking about topping off wine aging in a barrel that's lost a bit to evaporation? In that case I would use a similar wine (or the same one) but a neutral spirit is probably fine too. It will raise the alcohol content proportionally but if you're not adding more than a few percent by volume, it won't be much.

I think the OP was typing while drinking, and is now sleeping it off.

Pretty long nap, I hope he's OK and has a good breakfast when he wakes up.

Oh, I thought he was sterilizing the wine cellar. Vodka would be an expensive disinfectant.

Maybe after reading all the replies he joined Alcoholic Anonymous group :-)

Vodka would be an expensive disinfectant? Depends where he is. Back in the bad old days, folks in the USSR used it as windshield washer fluid in their Ladas because it was so much cheaper than the real thing.

They also use to send canisters filled with vodka to the front lines during world war 2 for the soldiers to take the edge off before the battle.

Vodka is also good to put on your kids gums when the first teeth coming out, just put it on the finger and rub it on their gums, cognac is also good for that, not to mention kids will get a good night sleep and so are you :-)
