My (pitiful) attempts at creating bonsai, from cheap material

Ill probably get a better, more expensive red japanese maple(deshojo was it?), but for starters, i began with a yew and a common juniper. Dont know how well i did, maybe i should have consulted someone....

This is the yew. Cascade maybe? Either way, im trying to get the main stem(trunk), to lean downward a bit, maybe create the canopy/foliage on it as some umbrella. either way, currently too small to do any fancy cutting, other than making go forward.

This is the juniper. Im trying to give it some kind of mini tree like shape. Dont know whats it called.

If you have any tips, or advice you could share, id appreciate it.
