Are you quilting this weekend? (Memorial Day) May 24-27

Hello Quilters!

I'm not sure what I will be doing this weekend. I always plan to sew but sometimes life interferes. On Tuesday I went to the Featherweight Club and sewed most of the day. The leader's DH came and did a demo of oiling and greasing the machines. He fixes Featherweights, so I sent my white machine home with him to check out. It runs so slowly that I don't like to use it.

DD plans to come over later today to sew. She is working on the block exchange from the guild. I have mine finished.

Last Saturday she called me and asked if I wanted to go to a garage sale in her neighborhood. Her DH saw it while walking and said they had jelly rolls. (We discovered that he doesn't know what a jelly roll is! lol) We found some fabric but not precuts. We both picked out some colors we needed. I brought it all home and washed it for both of us.

I need to finish putting the binding on a charity quilt for guild. That's probably what I'll do when she is here.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Linda OH

Yes, I plan to sew! I need to decide what I want to work on. I have a small hunter star wall hanging that needs borders, so I want to do that. I also have a growing stack of tops that need quilting, so I think I'll find backings and batting for at least a few of them. I'm not sure how much batting I have on hand, so a trip to JoAnn's may be on the agenda.

I have an orchestra rehearsal Sunday afternoon but no other firm plans.

No sewing this weekend. DH is away for four days so I am doing some jobs that need doing. Right now I am taking a break from stripping wallpaper. It is coming off quite easily so that is a relief. He uses one bedroom as his office and it is chaos. I also went through his closet and purged a few items. He will never miss them. I also want to box up all of the plaques etc. he has accumulated since his retirement as School Board Director and from various Charity groups.

    I would rather be sewing!

It finally stopped raining here and they were able to finish painting our house yesterday - it took 2 weeks because of all the rain! We moved the furniture back to the front porch then went to a graduation party and have another one tomorrow night. Tomorrow is our anniversary and there is a music festival in town this weekend, so we will go listen to some of the bands tomorrow and Sunday. In between, I plan to sew! I did finish the crayon quilt I started at the retreat and just need to add a label and get it washed and in the mail. I hope to finish some of the tops I started there and get them sandwiched.

It looks like everyone will have a busy weekend! Theresa - when you finish, will you come to my house??? I don't need wallpaper removed, but I would love to purge my husband's office!

I have so many jobs to get done around home but I do hope to add a few more blocks to the pile for the quilt I'm making my son. I do five or so at a sitting. I need 49 so it's a good project to go to for peace and quiet. I'm staying off the freeways this weekend but driving back to Oregon next week.

I am hoping to sew but lots of house projects need work too. Current #1 quilt project is a yellow/gray/ivory top I started a couple years ago as a daybed quilt for my seeing room. But then i moved my home office space in there so the daybed had to go. So the project became a quilt for our rv. I was recently inspired to start working on it again. It’s a weird mix with a big Swoon block at the center. Fingers crossed that I can pull it all together!

Linda OH, I love you and your DD sew together.

Donna, sounds like you have a lot going on. Looking forward to seeing your hunter's star.

Theresa, yay for the purging! Go, go, go!

Linda, That's a lot of blocks to stitch. What size are they?

Kate, would love to see a photo of your progress. I have the swoon quilt on my list, but can't quite wrap my head around the instructions. Think I need to pull it out and have a deep think on it.

I finally summoned up the courage to stitch together those Kaffe Fassett 6" squares I've had in my stash. I've sewn two packs so far, with one left. I like how they're turning out, though they are in no particular arrangement at the moment. I hope to finish the last pack today.

My other sewing plans are to make some skirts. We've had sunny, upper 90s weather here this week, and the humidity is around 78%. After running errands in that yesterday, I desperately need some breezy summer clothing. I don't wear shorts, and pants won't cut it. It's all about the air flow when it gets this hot and humid! ;)

Hope everyone gets their intended projects done this weekend!

    Happy Quilting Weekend, y'all!

Larri, those are very colorful blocks! I can’t wait to see what you do with them.

Lois, I love that block! It speaks to my traditional heart. :)

Here’s the Swoon block that will form the center of the quilt, medallion-like. Valarie (littlehelen) got me interested in this block.

And this is one of the corner blocks. Val gave me the animal graphic prints - they are adorable and perfect for this camper quilt! (fox, owl, bear, bunny)

Very nice, Kate! I like your colors and the animal prints sound perfect!

It's great to see you posting again!

Kate & Lois, I really like your blocks.Navy & white is one of my all-time favorite color combos. Thanks for showing the swoon. Definitely moving that up on my to-sew list.

Thanks for the nice words, Donna! I've yet to open the last KF charm pack, but hope to this afternoon. Gotta finish my skirts and knit dress first.

    Happy Quilting & Sewing, y'all!

I finished a baby quilt top for a friend's son's baby boy this past weekend. I love the stripe fabric, but I'm not sure I love the quilt. I think it's cute for a boy tho. I pictured the stripe fabric too.

Very nice, Char! I love stripes but have a hard time incorporating them into quilts. The closeup of the fabric looks almost like velvet.

Sweet quilt, Char. Do you have more of the striped fabric? It's so much like a fabric out of which I made a simple table runner. I love it too.

Thank you Donna and Lois. I do not work with stripes very much, but I fell in love with this fabric when I saw it. It's a cotton I got at Joann's years ago. Oooh Lois, I really like your runner! Your stripe does look similar to mine.
