Assuming the door opens inward I'd stain the concrete a suitable color and add railings. Bolt one directly to the house to the left of the door and bolt one onto the side of the steps in the right side.
It's the lack of rails that make the steps uninviting.

I like to see more photos ...but you are right it's very unattractive as is. You have a few options here ..remove the entire step problem ..then build a new one out of wood and make a little inviting terrace wit climbing plants and a roof or ..because you have an air vent on the left ..work around it and add more stone / cement up to the left of the house ..leaving the air vent exposed .. ..just make the steps much larger and add a handrail ...

Just have the concrete steps built the width of that space from the corner of the house to what appears to be some sort of heater. Do the concrete in a color to go with the house add railing or even just a couple of pots with plants to dress it up.Something like this would be nice with a bit more interesting finish instead of just concrete

Yikes! They look dangerous! I would definitely remove these and extend to the corner of the house and to the heater unless a certain amount of clearance is needed or if the vent can’t be blocked on the base of the house.

A wider top landing and something to buffer the view of the area to the right.

@jenniecollins I keep telling my husband our kid is gonna fall off the stairs, into the empty space next to the heater. I think because it hasn't happened yet, he thinks I'm being paranoid. glad others share the same concern!
