Pardon my continuing ignorance on how to order from RU, but I get that 3 roses is the min. and that shipping is the same amount for any number of roses 3 to 6 correct? And then a $5 per rose handling charge?

And what email do I send my wanted list to? I sent an email with basically these questions to the email on website and got no response. Do I send what I want to purchase to them and they will respond whenever?

And one more thing, can someone please post a pic of what the roses look like when they arrive?

    Thanks for reading,

    David

Hi David, I always call rather than email. It often takes many attempts to get through on the phone, but worth it to me. They check inventory for the roses you are interested in while on the phone with you and give you a total. You can give them your card info (for a small fee) while on the phone or mail them a check I think the $5 handling charge is per order

Hi David, here you can have an idea of what roses look like when they come.

Do you have any problems today calling Stephanie to give her credit card info? I have been calling her for an hour and it's either went to the voice mail or gave busy signal. I don't remember it's this hard to call them last time I placed an order. Helen

Same problem here. I sent a check, and alerted Pat via email.

David, here is the email address. rosesunlmt@aol.com

I have always found Pat very responsive to email.

Deborah, did Pat email you back and saying it's ok to send her a check? I'm guessing you subtracted the $5 credit card fee from your check?

She emailed me saying that I could email her the credit card info but I don't think it's a good idea to do that. Neither my email provider or hers are secure to send credit card info. Helen

I emailed Pat asking her if it's OK to mail her a check. If she's OK I'll use that method.

Pat's a great person, and she responses to email quickly. However, I think she still needs to resolve the credit card processing issue in her business.

Just for laugh, here is a screenshot from my phone after I tried to call Stephanie on and off for 4 hours with a total of 50 phone calls and couldn't reach Stephanie. To be exact it was 49 phone calls but then when I decided to take a screenshot, I like a rounded number and also thought I might get lucky and could reach her at the 50th call, so I made one more call to get the number 50 :) I left Stephanie a message but I don't expect her to call me back any time soon. Helen

Goodness, I’m glad I ordered as soon as I saw the sale. Stephanie picked up the phone on my first try , they had all the roses I wanted.I thought it was a dream, that when I woke up I’d. discover that none of it really happened lol

Helen, I have pretty much always paid Pat by check for this reason, and I always ask that she let me know if it is a problem. So far she has not requested credit card only. I did not subtract the $5.00, but I am okay with that if I can avoid playing phone tag.

  • bayarea_girl_z10a_ca

Deborah, I agree. I don't mind paying the Paypal or Amazon fee just to make it less painful. I figured if I got the exact number, then she doesn't even have to mail me back a refund of $5 which is more work for her. Helen

I ordered as soon as I saw the sale. I emailed my list in - Pat said to call Stephanie next day w/ card information. Phone kept being busy so while I was driving I just kept redialing. I figured someone would hang up and I could be the next call. Took a few minutes but it worked.

    What did everyone get???

I got Summer Fashion which is a rose I love at my local botanic garden and no one seems to sell anymore, Queen of Sweden, Molineux, Apricot Drift which I can't find anywhere just coral, peach, and sweet drift here, and Bolero which wasnt on sale but was on my list and they have it.

I mailed Pat a check and later also got a voice mail from Stephanie. Here are my 6 roses:

    Prospero

    The Squire

    Freckles

    Versigny

    Caboose

    Louise Clements

I was planning to get only 3 roses. However, the shipping for 3 or 6 roses is the same so I got 3 more. The shipping to California is $54 for 6 roses. With all of these tempting sales (J&P, Wayside Gardens, Rose Unlimited...), I'm blocking my mind from the part where I will plant them. They all go into pots and stay under a lemon tree to hide from the hot summer sun. Helen

    My order arrived!

If anyone is wondering about plant size

2 Sutter’s Gold in the Box, followed by 1 Sutter’s Gold, 2 Distant Thunder, 1 Coffee Country, all nice and healthy.

All in 1 gallon pots with moist soil. The box was quite heavy, hence the shipping charges.

WOW - Ben, those are bushes!

Now I definitely want Peggy M, if she is still available. Thanks for posting that pic!

Vaporvac - could you tell me a bit about Peggy M please? The pics on HMF are so dreaming that I really want to try her. But there isn't a whole lot of information on HMF nor discussions about her on the Forum, in particular regarding her disease resistance. Thanks!

I wish I could help, but mine is new in a pot I overwintered and about to give her first blooms. She still small so i'm surprised she wants to bloom at all frankly. I'll definitely post pics as the season progresses especially once she's in the ground. The deer fencing needs to go up in that area first, though.

  • pippacovalent

So did you guys get tracking info? Mine were set to ship the 10th so I just assumed they are on their way but I don't have a tracking number. I'm west of Texas though so I bet mine come tomorrow.

  • linc1164 (Zone 7a central NJ)

Thank you Vaporvac! I think I'm just going to have to try her without much info. I have emailed Roses Unlimited to check for inventory. Will follow up with a phone call tomorrow if I don't get a reply. I hope they still have her. Yes - deer fence up first before your pretty roses go in the ground. We replaced our fence surrounding our entire backyard last summer, so the backyard was without fence for half a week. Drat those deer - they found my roses in such a short time and had a field day on my expenses @#$%!

    I ordered:

Princess Charlene de Monaco (couldn't help myself)

    Grande Dame

    I love Roses Unlimited!!

    Pippa

No tracking info, I was just told they’d ship on Monday. Then on Thurs the UPS lady arrived with a big box of roses. I didn’t realize you were west of TX, somehow I figured California because your roses are so nice :-)

  • pippacovalent

Ben I'm in the "intermountain west", so northwest of Texas actually, I'm at 5,000 feet elevation and it's semi arid here so I think maybe that helps the roses. I never put my state on the web because I don't want it coming up in searches with the name of the state due to a stalker type person I had awhile ago, but I believe HCR used to be located in this general area before they moved to Denver. We do have powdery mildew here but not many other big rose problems. I think the hardest thing is that at this elevation the sun is harsh and intense. My vacation place is even higher elevation at 7,000 feet and shade is a commodity there lol.

My roses came in late yesterday and they look like Ben's - very bushy and healthy. Will be potting them all up today! Once repotted, bet they will take off and grow well. May have to trim a few back a bit.

Pippa, I think HCR used to be in Utah. Were they in Tx, as well. If that's the case they should know about rose in many different zones.

I thought this would be interesting for everyone to see. My friend who did the RU group buy with me, also received her order from Fresh Garden Living order today

    https://www.etsy.com/shop/FreshGardenLiving?ref=s2-header-shopname&listing_id=464128093

The FGL roses are also very healthy, the Jasmina even has buds:

They are small compared to the RU roses behind them:

    Nice!

I think both are great resources to get roses we otherwise could not obtain locally.

Because I love comparisons , here’s one more. My RU own-roots vs my Wayside bareroots. The bareroots do look a bit deceptively small since they’re mostly submerged in soil, but they are typical @1 grade.

I’ve ordered several from Fresh Garden Living, too, and while small, they were quite healthy.

What a fun and happy thread. I hope your new roses all do wonderfully well. I was thrilled to find another rose source, Fresh Garden Living, which is new to me. The roses look very good in Ben's photo, and prices are quite reasonable. Thank you!

Ingrid, I think FGL also goes by another name and sells on both Etsy and ebay. Maybe someone will remember that. Moses has bought many roses from them and wrote about it extensively last year. I can't wait to finish planting all my pot pets because then I can start thinking about MORE roses! LOL! Although, I never thought I give dead-heading as much thought as I am now. Lots of blooms = lots of dead heads! I'm looking at New Dawn and thinking I really need to cut her back, but it's daunting! : ))

Mine came finally, my ship date was the 10th I think...and a couple are
pretty yellow, is that okay? What is that from? I've never seen a rose get yellow leaves before.

  • alameda/zone 8/East Texas

Nothing to worry about - from being out of sunshine. Pot them up, give them partial shade to adjust and they will start putting out new leaves.

Roses I have moved when it's warm turn all their leaves yellow from shock. Then the yellows drop, then new leaves push out. Your roses probably didn't like being manhandled and then plunged into darkness. ;)

    Another fun comparison:

Left: RU, Distant Thunder, Own Root, I’ve had it about 1 month. This plant had the thinnest stems of the three, also had smaller root ball than the K&M. Very healthy, put out a lot of new growth

Middle: Wayside, Molineaux, Bare Root, Dr Huey, also had it about a month. By far the thickest stems, but of course being bare root had to grow new feeder roots. Good progress, there’s even a bud.

Right: K&M, Buxom Beauty ,Fortuniana, just arrived today. Thicker stems than the RU rose, also had a very dense rootball. Was trimmed short significantly to fit in packing box so most of the mature foliage is gone, but lots of new growth remains, even 2 buds.

I’m very happy with all three providers, and thankful that I’m able to get hard-to-find varities in mid summer in great health!

For completeness sake, this is my order from Rogue Valley

2 each of Typhoo Tea, Geranium Red, Paul Barden’s Treasure Trail, plus free mystery rose, band size.. These will be a bit of a challenge to grow, still I’m happy to get some varieties that are otherwise unavailable.

Out of all the online live plant rose nurseries I’ve used, Roses Unlimited has always been the favorite one. So what I am about to say should in NO way be interpreted as saying their products came with midge. Years ago, I introduced midge into my garden. It is highly likely I got them from one of the live plant rose nurseries. Which one? I have no idea, and I bought from many.

Please do ask Pat if they have a midge problem or take caution to quarantine whatever plants you get from whichever nursery. It is heartbreaking to have next to zero blooms after the spring. So take precaution!!! I wish I had known better

I have had some severe blackspot and chlorosis on my RU order - 4 of 4 plants were affected.
