Bathroom floor tile by the door- Is layout ok?

Hi,

I had 12x24 tile put in my bathroom two days ago. It is not grouted yet.

The small piece of tile on the left side by the door looks funny to me. It’s such a small piece and it seems to stick out compared to the other pieces.

It seems really noticeable especially with the way the door opens up.

Is this an unavoidable consequence of having the tile in a staggered pattern lengthwise? Do others have small pieces of tile by the door?
Here’s a picture:

Thank you for your advice!

    I'm def. not a pro.

My husband and I did the tiling in our two bathrooms. One bathroom is similar to your set up, with the cabinets to the left of the entry, and the door opening to the right side.

For esthetic reasons, we measured the flooring and 'started' the tiling - using whole pieces - dead center with the entry way, as well to the left of the entry (where the cabinets are).

I, personally, do not like to see cuts when I look into any room, from the doorway/s.

Kind of too late now, but with the large format tiles, you do run into this problem. I might have started at the entry and lined things up for minimal partial cuts right where you might step into the room. If the threshold is done nicely, and grout to match the tile, it will be OK.

Once matching grout is in it will almost diasappear

Thanks everyone! It probably looks more noticeable now since there is no grout and there is a concentration of the orange items around it..

The grout matches really well so hopefully It will all blend together. Thank you for the input.

We tend to really focus in on things while in the process and then when it's finished, we never notice them again.

i am relieved to hear this.

I never paid much paid attention to my bathrooms or other peoples before this remodel except for paint color. I am surprised at how many decisions there are. Steep learning curve.

Would definitely hire a designer in the future.

I just had my bathroom floor done and the installer asked me where I wanted the small tiles, at the door or at the tub. I chose the tub of course. It would have been nice if they asked you, but it will look fine when grouted and no one will ever notice it.

The installer wanted to show as many whole tiles in the MIDDLE of the room as possible. That meant the doorway and the edges of the room (under the cabs...at the walls) get all the narrow cuts. It is the nature of the beast. There will always be some form of compromise. This is a preferred compromise for most people.
