How to repair irrigation pipe at the connector

My system has failed twice at the connection from the underground PVC pipe to the metal pipe. It currently has a female threaded plastic connector. It has been suggested that we switch to a male threaded nipple schedule 80 fitting. The sprinkler company wants to use a "new" push on connector that will never fail, so they say. Has anyone had any experience with this type of connector? I wonder if it is just easier to install than a threaded connector.
