The Datura flower shown is real. It is a cultivar of Datura metal. The article with the photo calls Datura a ground-hugging plant. Perhaps the particular cultivar they show is low growing, but Datura height varies with the amount of sun and moisture it gets. In your yard it could be 12" or 36" tall.

The color progression isn't really right for a Datura metel. Most likely a highly-selected Datura Wrightii. They're usually all white, but it's not uncommon to see a paler version of this purple-white-yellow pattern, especially at high altitudes. And yes it's photoshopped a little to get the color saturation and dark leaves. These get regular dark green leaves.
