Navy cashmere sweater - where to find

I need/want a navy cashmere cardigan. There are lots out there, but I have very specific ideas about it. It needs to have some sort of closing mechanism, like a zipper or buttons. It needs to be hip-length, not longer or shorter. I want something fairly classic. Both of the ones below have hoods, but I’m not wed to the idea of a hood.

I found this one at llbean.com. It ticks all the boxes (including washable), but it has no reviews.

I found this one at Neiman Marcus, but I‘m afraid the metallic trim will be limiting.

I’ve also looked at Nordstrom, but didn’t like anything they had to offer.

Where else should I look?

Thanks, beckysharp. I want the sweater to be a tad longer than the ones you found. I have a black v-neck cardigan from Lands’ End that I love. It is about 27” long. What I really want is that sweater in navy. Unfortunately, they no longer make it in any color. (Is this a hint that I’m out of style?)

I’ve messaged JCrew about the length of the men’s cardigan that you posted. It has possibilities!

Why not just get the one from Bean and return it if you don’t like it. I think they do free returns. The same sweater in pullover is reviewed, and the reviews are good.

I actually really like the pullover and may purchase

Not sure, but WoolOvers might have something you like. WoolOvers cashmere

Thanks, party_music50. I’ve never heard of WoolOvers, but they have a sweater I’m going to buy. Also going to get the one from L L Bean, as localeater suggested. I don’t know about free return shipping, but if I pay through PayPal, PP will pay for the return shipping!

bbstx, I ordered a few sweaters from them last year as a gift -- they were very good quality. Generous with their sizing, so check before you order! When I ordered, they had a NY return site for US orders. PS: didn't know PP pays for return shipping!

Never heard of WoolOvers. Love the offerings. Thanks for the tip. Two new jumpers on the way.

“...if I pay through PayPal, PP will pay for the return shipping!“

Learn something all the time here. I thought PayPal only had your back with eBay type purchases. Not sure why I thought that.

    Like the ll bean one!

I was going to suggest Uniqlo but they don’t have a cardigan right now. Maybe later when the fall and winter styles start hitting you might have better luck.

PayPal doesn’t make it easy, but you can do it. I have!

Perhaps looking for a cashmere sweater in July is not the best time for the best selection? If there isn't a reason to need it sooner, I'd wait at least 1-2 months, maybe 2-3.

Yes, good sense says to wait until closer to the season to shop for a cashmere sweater. But then I get busy and it is still hot here and I forget to shop and they are all sold out by the time I remember!

Yeah -- I can understand that too.....but if you've been shopping for one, you will be seeing them in your email, in ads anywhere you look. The internet knows what you want - and everything you don't want but bothered to look at for any silly reason. LOL

Seriously, if you don't find what you want, you could put a reminder or two on your phone and make a mental note to look again when you feel the weather start to cool. I've found Columbus Day to Veteran's Day to be a good time to shop without dealing with Black Friday ordeals.

How about merino and possum fur? Soft as can be and incredibly warm. You might find it now because New Zealand's seasons are the opposite of ours. Here is a sampling, but you can google NZ merino wool/possum fur knitwear for more options.

    cardigan with zipper

    merino cardigan with buttons

I have a Lothlorien sweater that I bought when I was there-excellent quality

    Lothlorien cardigan

another Lothlorien one-I really like this and it has pockets!

Anyway, unless you are buying truly high quality cashmere (think Scottish), you will probably be happier with the merino/possum fur sweaters.

cyn, possum fur??? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that being used in knit garments. The sweaters were good looking but might be a little heavy for my use.

lascatx, you are too right! Our screens will be covered up with sweater ads!

Outside Playing, I have a cream merino wool sweater from Uniqlo. Regretfully, I find it a bit skimpy in my regular size. I wish I had returned it for a larger size. Now it languishes on a shelf in my closet.

Learned something new already today -- I'd never heard of possum used in yarn either. Interesting.

Bbstx, what you are looking for sounds very nice. Hope you find it. I haven't worn cashmere in years -- decades now. Even with a blouse underneath, it would make me itch, but I love it and gift it. Need to try it again.

The possum fur is not from animals like our opossums in North America. Possums were imported to start a fur business, but they were let free when that didn't take off and now the critters are defoliating forests. It was sad to see so many dead/dying trees when we were there. So, the country decided to work on getting rid of them and a new industry was born. I have sweaters, mittens, and socks. I learned to order large socks because they did seem to shrink some, but nothing else has.The fur is very light-I think it is hollow and clothes are not at all heavy. Just warm.

    possum facts

FYI, the fur is not North American o'possum, but New Zealand possum, an animal native to Australia. It's considered a big pest in NZ and marketing them as a luxury fur and encouraging hunting and trapping of the little varmints is their best method of control.

I pointed that out, rhizo and included a link.

Lord & Taylor has cashmere cardigans on sale right now for $70. Unfortunately, the cardigans that are on sale, are not as long as I am wanting. If you have ShopRunner, you can get 2 day free shipping and free returns. Some credit cards offer the ShopRunner service as a bonus. Mine is free through my American Express card.
