The rug is nice, you need to get a nice white pillow for the chair. Can you show the rest of the room, we may be able to make it work for you.

The rug is really quite nice.....................but it's pretty contemporary in style, and nothing around it is that style. Either replace the rug, or replace the furnishings.

I personally like that rug but it doesn't go with that room. the style is modern, and the grey has a cool undertone. like calidesign said, return it our repurpose it elsewhere.

OR: I think it wouldn't be too bad if that chair was replaced or reupholstered with a solid fabric. swap out a few of the decor items and you could nudge your room more towards a transitional feel.

Not a fan of the rug either and can see why you dislike it too. It does nothing to complement what I can see of your furniture. Can you return the rug and try again?

Can we see photos of the rest of the room? The rug is s different style and cooler. Is the rug color in chair at all? It looks like maybe it is but I’m On my phone so hard to tell.

I think there‘s still hope to make it work depending on rest of room. For the chair you could fold a throw and have it coming down over The back so it covers a large portion of the pattern. Then add a pillow to further tie things a long. Colors etc depend on the rest of the room.

I bought the rug because I thought it matched the chairs and nothing is returnable

The chairs are gray with beige paisley however the beige is really coming out. I gave s light gray soda and light gray walls. I cant return anything but I will buy a new rug

With the color of the floor and furniture, a rug that has warm tones in it will be a much better match. Please also make sure that it's large enough for the room, with no more than 18 inches of the floor showing around the rug. Your room will instantly feel more cozy and inviting.

If you're trying to move to a more transitional look, this could be made to work. In that case, I'd simply replace (or relocate) the chair, canvas art, and lamp. And bring in a little color with at least 2 of those 3 items.

Why cant it be returned? I always check to see if an item can be exchanged. Or refunded. most credit card co. will help you get $ back.

Could you take a picture of the whole room? We could give you a better idea of what size rug is needed. We would also be able to see if the current rug could be made to work with a few tweaks.

I love the rug. Maybe leave it in place and see if you start loving it again. I don't think there is anything wrong with mixing modern and traditional.

I love everything in your photo except the rug. I'm sorry you can't return it, or exchange it for another.

Please don't listen to the "pros" who are telling you to get rid of your furniture, and buy furniture to match a rug you hate. Really, people ? Why on earth would she want to do that ?

More pictures ...showing every thing...the rug goes with the tv and console...maybe there is something else to add to make a cohesive grouping....the layout can be altered ....putting the desk and those pieces on another wall....you may need to move to a more eclectic feel ...I always think if you chose all the pieces there is some common aesthetic that can be found in each piece..

The desk grouping and the chair seem very detailed and ornate... in your room I think the rug reads like an interesting solid color...don’t give up yet....

The OP had another thread that showed more furniture in the room, stated that all the furniture is new and not changing, and this rug does not work with any of it.

I don’t think you have to get rid of things. They can be tied together so it looks better related and more intentional.

The patterned chair is definitely tripping you up, the style of it isn’t all that bad. Maybe have it re done in a solid color. If that isn’t an option I love the idea of a previous poster to cover it as much as possible with a pillow and throw. Love the idea of mixing different styles, it brings the room to life.

Sell the rug on Craigslist but definitely don't start replacing your existing furnishings to try to make it work. What a waste that would be! We all make mistakes (yes, even the professionals), and some are more costly than others. That's often how we gain decorating experience though. You need a different rug and we can help you with that if you'd like.
