Rug Placement and Color HELP !!

Excuse the mess in the house...the runners and rugs have been temporary to just have something down on the floors. The house feels to “warm” with colors. My floors are gray and the walls are of light gray with white borders. I would like to change the living room rug as well in the future. My husband likes it but I feel it’s what initially started the warm color theme.

I really need some ideas and/or help on colors and/or placement of rugs or runners for these awkward areas. The kitchen, living room, foyer and dining room are all open to each other.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated!’

    :-) Spolied cat!

When you add more pictures, include a closeup of the pillow on the sofa under the window. I think that would be a good color direction.

I like your sofas, wall color, home style, and general decor. It will be really nice with a focus to help you pull it together and see what is "too much".

Also, are you getting a table for the breakfast room and what is that time-portal circle thing?

Removed the what floor coverage that I’m able to. The couch, coffee table, side tables in the dining room, things on the walls, and the rug in the LR. My PLAN in the future is to update the couch to an L-shaped sectional with an ottoman and go from there. I would like to start with the rugs/runner colors and decorate around that? It’s a major haul but it’s been 3 years in the house and the decor irritates me every time I walk in (somewhat kidding).

I’m open to any suggestion for this. From rugs to decor. Just need help.

Tqtqbtw- I’m not sure which round time portal but I feel you’re talking about the coffee table...lol. The couch, side tables and coffee table are all from my husband when he was a bachelor 8 years ago. Lol I hate all of them. Lol

I think it was pet gear?

Very nice. Do you not like the living room rug, dining room drapes, glass blow, or floral art piece? They give the room the warm color direction. I can’t tell if the dining and living room rugs have similar colors or not. You need a rug inside the front door. It doesn’t have to be an area rug but should be as wide as the door,

The main problem I saw before and still see to a lesser degree is too many small decor items. The furniture is nice and I like the glass bowl on the coffee table. The black credenza below the kitchen bar is in the way and adds more smaller things. As a general rule, don‘t hang art or decor items on skinny walls. it is ok to have blank space.

I do like the pillow and think you can do a lot with what you have.

The house looks relatively new. If you have a floor plan, photo it and make a jpeg and upload. If not, draw all your space to 1/4 inch scale and do same.

You have too much stuff crammed in, nobody can determine the size of the spaces to give good advice. It's about much more than color to make a pleasing space. Rugs included.

I am trying to figure the “warm” with the gray and yes the clutter makes it almost impossible to get a feel for the space and all those runners need to cats or no cats. The TV needs a proper height cabinet to bring the TV to the right viewing height, if those are spakers beside the TV there are great small spaekers now that provide just as good a sound without overtaking the space in a small room. I think I would look at trying to find a room where you could put all the cat toys , just like kids should not take over the whole house either should animals. The garbage does not belong sitting in the breakfast area .There are some nice pieces but hard to see with all the other stuff.

I apologize for my late response. Here is a rough idea of the measurements. I have more detailed measurements if you’d like those too (I.e. column width/length, openings as in doors).

-I like the rug but I think it’s what initially started my road to warm colors. I would like to get away from all of that and make the room brighter with the grey scale area and maybe some pops of color throughout?
-The art on the walls are on the walls just to be on the walls to be quite honest. The art above the zenith has the colors I would to incorporate in the space.

    • I have several items that are glass blown (small scale as the piece on the table). I love art glass and if possible would like to incorporate that into everything. I can take a picture of the collection later.
-The dining room rug does have some similar colors but not as much as the rug in the LR.
    • I agree with the small knick-knacks throughout the house. I really love eclectic not every day items. Contemporary items you really wouldn’t typically see in a house. I think that may have been the route of some of the problems here.

-I agree with the black credenza. I would like to keep it maybe in another room if painted.

    • Addressing the TV and the speakers. The TV will be hung on the wall with the cords hidden in the wall. As far as the speaker encasement, that’s actually the bottom part of the shelving. I’ve attached a picture of the shelf/speaker encasement. The shelf is already built. We’re waiting to paint both (off white) and assemble them on top of each other. The idea is to frame the TV (per request of husband).

Regarding the breakfast room, our intention isn’t to use it as a breakfast room because we are in a small space we chose to have a dining room over having another table in the way. It’s just my husband and I.

Got it. So, yes, the living room rug, scatter rugs and patterned drapes in the dining room are the wrong colors. Is there room in the dining room under the mirror for the credenza? It would also look nice under the breakfast room window if the cat tower could be moved.

You need either a cream rug or one with blue, gray and cream to bring in the colors from the picture.

I like this one and would keep the pillow I like. ;-) It is mostly cool colors but has a touch of a warm color (brown copper?) to tie in your art glass and the warm woods.
