Thank you, I definitely will check into having the carpet cleaned first. The rugs are allen + Roth brown rectangular carpets, no design.

Do you have pictures of your space? Possibly adding a rug with a design, even if it’s a neutral design, might look more intentional.

Do you need a carpet in the bedroom ..I just have real wood parquet flooring and horror no rug !!

Ideally replacing the carpet with wood is a good idea but right now clening it is the first step and if you want help you need to post pictures of the space and the look you want to work toward.

I did this with a worn out wall to wall carpet in my bedroom because I knew I was remodeling and would be replacing the old carpet with wood flooring.

I cleaned the carpet and then put a very large area rug on it and it was fine. Mine was a large Karastan in the classic Kirman pattern. I just finished my remodel and am using the same rug except over the hardwood floors. It worked for me because it looked as though the rug was intentionally used over the carpet.

As others have posted, it would depend on exactly what the layout was but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have seen area rugs being intentionally put over wall to wall in living rooms as part of the design.

We are still in process of house refresh. We pulled up the dining room carpet and due to some damage, I painted two coats of oil-base primer. We are not ready to lay the new vinyl plank flooring so I put down an area rug, and it actually doesn’t look bad! I can see, if budget was super tight, and I didn’t need a totally smooth floor, that this would be an option.

When we pulled up the carpet and rug it was really disgusting what was under there - I would not count on re-using your pad....
