Unfortunately, more frequent cleaning has to substitute for more aggressive products. Most toilet or bath cleaning products are acidic, not pH balanced , and will damage marble. ZEP makes a neutral pH cleaner that works OK, but it needs to be cleaned more frequently as a result of not being acidic.

If you haven’t selected your toilet yet, select one with the clean shield type coating, a larger water spot, and directional jetting for a good swirl pattern. Like a Toto. The cleaner that the toilet itself is designed to stay, the less frequently you need the products. Also invest in a water treatment plan for your home’s water if you have low or high pH, or have high mineral content. You can’t use things like CLR either.

If I recall correctly my Toto recommended dishwashing liquid, like dawn. That’s what I use to clean the inside. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on the outside.

We install natural stone bathrooms often. One of the biggest "oh no's" is the drips from toilet bowl cleaners. We recommend this and our clients love it. Great information Dragonfly- thank you! I have newly installed honed marble walls and counters, plus quartzite counters and have been looking for PH neutral cleaners for the bathrooms, shower, kitchen, and toilets. I see that MB-5 has a higher PH than 7 and the Majestic is Alkaline in the PH 12.5 range. Do I need to be worried about splashes or one of these cleaners accidentally getting on marble or quartzite wall surfaces? Thanks!!
