Oh I wish I had white, but newer SS was here when we moved in. So I guess I'm stuck with it. I am not going to get rid of perfectly good appliances over color.

I have a mix of stainless and white. I love my white ovens. When dishwasher goes, I’ll probably replace it with white.

I replaced my (white) refrigerator a few years ago with a stainless steel one and have regretted the stainless steel ever since. I do think that stainless steel has been the must-have color for a long time now, and white has been "out," But that has nothing to do with what you like, or what you "should" like. If you like white, by all means buy white.

I am hopeful that the posters above who seen hints that white is coming back are correct. I want to buy a new range and I want it to be white. White seems to be common at the low end of the market and available for additional cost at the high end (where you can start getting custom colors), but almost nonexistent in mid-range appliances.

I have white appliances and will have white as long as I can get them. They seem to be available in my area without problem.

I will never again hav stainless appliances. To me they read institutional and I had enough institutional at summer camp 1966.

I have always had white appliances, until my recent remodel. I went with stainless steel on all my appliances and it is my biggest regret.

When I remodeled my kitchen last year I went with paneled DW and fridge/freezer to match the cabinets. Best decision ever! Not having to clean that big expanse of stainless ... priceless!

I do like white appliances, but they work best if the rest of the kitchen isn't utterly white. The kitchen Tartanmeup showed would have to have a different color wall/backsplash, and I mean color, not grey or greige.

I think white appliances denote a certain lower-end price point. Rarely seen (special order) on more expensive high-end appliances? Anyone ever seen a white (not paneled) Sub-Zero?

sushi, I don't know if I've ever SEEN a Sub-Zero in a home - mainly because I don't tend to look at the labels on peoples' appliances when visiting (and we do end up in kitchens because I go to a lot of pot lucks).

White appliances can be beautiful! And what’s most important is what you like and what looks good in YOUR home. If you’re planning to sell within the year- then consult a real estate agent locally for advice- but otherwise, get what you like!!

We just built new construction and STRONGLY considered all white appliances in our new kitchen. Other selections ruled out white in the end, but I spent a lot of time looking at pics of kitchens with white appliances and there are a ton that look fabulous. (I really wanted white vintage style appliances personally, but the vintage style was too expensive for us.)

I don't look at brand names on people's appliances either. I don't even pay attention to what appliances they even have. Heck I couldn't even tell you the brand name on my appliances unless I looked at them. People impress me, not what brand appliances they have or the color. . I buy appliances by features needed, size, reviews and price. Not by brand. Color is just cosmetic. It has nothing to do with how the appliance preforms and functions.

Tatts, in my case, the white was $100 cheaper than the stainless. Don't think HD employees are on commission either. I think he was simply trying to validate my choice, for whatever reason.

Btw, I'm in Montreal, and it's rare for homeowners here to include appliances when selling their house (common in flips though) so home resale didn't factor into my decision at all.

SS is tacky in my opinion. As mentioned earlier, the matte white looks really nice, as does the matte black.

Miele is usually pretty cutting edge. They have a line called Brilliant White. The press release said:

I am entranced by the Cafe matte white with gold or copper but how well will it wear? The general consensus around here seems to be that slate/black stainless is bad long term because of scratches, etc., has anyone seen the white in person? Is going to have a similar issue?

Even if outnumbered by stainless steel, white can't be that far out because it's still widely available. Unlike almond. Almond is out.

I did some looking at my Pinterest files and figured out the way I like to see white appliances used. I prefer the white to be in contrast to the surrounding cabinets, so painted a color or a wood.

Yes they are out of style for the last 2 decades. As a real estate professional I can attest that most clients go ouuu ahhhhh when they see a house with stainless steel appliances over tacky white appliances. This pic says it all. SS appliances look luxurious. White even high end ones look cheap and tacky and don't improve resale value like SS does.

Perhaps the sale people that are pushing SS have more higher priced SS in stock than white and wanted them gone before SS goes "out of style"?

While I don't think either white or actual stainless steel appliances will go "out of style", certainly any plastic clad appliances that supposedly look like SS would/should.

For builder grade appliances, stainless steel looks much better, for high-end brands, colors can be premium choice. It all depends on the overall design and choice of finishes

I think of white appliances as pretty classic - always been around. White hasn't been particularly popular though for as long as I've been paying attention - the herd has been going with stainless for a long time. I don't particularly care for stainless so it's black or white for me. Since I like beige-y tones and have no white, it was black for me. I get what I like that, in my opinion, looks good in the surrounding environment without regard to its popularity or trendiness.

Since stainless steel is available in even the cheapest brands, it surprises me that clients would ooh and ahh over them. I like white too and wonder how a colour can be tacky.

High end luxury home usually = maid or cleaning service:) I've never been excited over stainless appliances at an open house of a lived in home. I do prefer cottages - probably why I like white.

Partim it's actually more about the look. Places with SS appliances vs white usually have more appeal amongst buyers. I think sleek white appliances do look good in more traditional/ vintage places as mentioned above and cottages. But a modern/contemporary home with white appliances may not appeal to the masses. Again SS sell more than white because they are still very popular among the masses.

But hey, why not go for a blue fridge if you want the old school look and feel, LOL.

White, gray (SS), and black are all neutrals and either would work in most kitchens. I have gray cabinets with SS . Too much gray , but the SS was here when we bought the house. I like the cabinets, but not the SS. I never did like SS and prefer white. I'm hoping as the appliances fail I can replace them with white with some SS on them to somewhat blend in till all the SS fails.

Stainless preference is often just groupthink. I think it may have started because it conveys the impression you are a “professional” cook, ie., it looks industrial. Also there was a concurrent boom in the romanticization of loft spaces and taking them over from artists to turn them into condos, and the creation of design lines of big stores for pseudo industrial/loft style furnishings. I have had all metal kitchens, sink, cabinets, fridge btdt. I am just as happy with traditional white. I find a lot of the stainless appliances look dingy and dark. It should just be a matter of personal preference.

Well, I doubt that a $10,000 Lacanche range is just any old white appliance. ;-)

I've always liked white and have a true vintage house where they are appropriate. However, as our white appliances slowly died, we started replacing them with stainless. Why stainless (which can be a PIA to keep clean) rather than white? When we were shopping we found that there were many more higher end (not the super, super expensive models, but quality models with desirable features) in stainless rather than white. That's what drove our decision.

It sounds like you are unfamiliar with the Miele brand. Perhaps google it a bit and stop making sweeping statements that reveal your lack of sophistication. That photo of the wall of cabinetry you posted shows dated cabinets, dated layout, dated backsplash, dated color choices.

As a real estate appraiser, we used to note on reports whether there was a stainless kitchen. It was considered a feature that improved the valuation of the home. But, this was because it was not commonly seen. Now, it is ubiquitous.

White is always a classic. So is stainless. Harvest gold and avocado green have mercifully gone by the wayside. I would not encourage black stainless because it will limit replacement choices later on.

I’ve redone two kitchens from scratch. Used white appliances both times. Both houses are antiques. But more, ss was introduced as an industrial look. Part of a commercial kitchen look for “serious” cooks and chefs. I’m not like that.

I cringe when when the young ones list ss appliances as a ‘must have’ on their house hunting list. A)you don’t buy a house for the appliances and B) the appliances should match the kitchen and house, not the trend of the day.

White is back in a big way. Most of the high end (& some others) have a white range.

My kitchen has white cabinets and I decided on Black appliances with SS as accents. I had to replce my refrigerator last year and discovered that in the french door models I was interested in only SS or Black SS was available. I was really depressed. I can't stand the look of SS refrigerators. And they are horrible to keep clean. My Black always looked pristine. I finally decided on LG french door in Matte Black and it blends well with my other black appliances. Don't know what I'll do if I need to replace my dishwasher or wall oven. Only saving grace as these 2 don't present as large a front face as a refrigerator. I thought Black and white kitchens were a classic but I was mistaken.

We are just finishing our kitchen renovation, I had classic white cabinets and appliances before and now once again have painted warm white cabinets and appliances!! LOVE my white kitchen! DW is a BOSCH with cabinet panel front, refrigerator comes with excellent reviews and is a French door model by KITCHEN-AID in white, and well, as far as my range - a bit disappointed that my particular WOLF range model doesn't come in white so it is SS.....already anxious about how I will keep it clean!! WHITE HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE A CLASSIC!!

I love white appliances. Easy upkeep and a clean classic look. When I was buying my range years ago I could not find it in anything but stainless. The model was being discontinued (DCS was being sold to Fisher&Paykel) and I ended up buying one online from across the country. They only had one left and they said it was in stainless. I was so disappointed but I wanted the function of that particular range so I decided I would make it work somehow. A day later I got a call. They were sorry but the range wasn't stainless, it was white. I did a silent happy dance while they offered it at the same price as the stainless if I would still take it. White was an upgrade that cost several hundred dollars more at the time. Still makes me smile every time I use that range or wipe it down.

"White" is definitely on the upswing. They tried and tried but the SS is just such a pain for upkeep, and really why did anyone want an INDUSTRIAL looking kitchen, so cold and unfriendly??!!! Sadly Ivory is not available. Stark WHITE is not always the best option, it is unfortunate the softer ivory isn't an option at this time.

Stainless was fancy ten years ago. Now every low rent remodel includes stainless. It’s only considered high end in places where people haven’t seen high end.

I like white appliances and strongly considered purchasing them but in the end decided to go with stainless for a couple of reasons.

I felt that white appliances combined with the finishes in my kitchen (cabinets, baseboards) would make it look dated. The second reason was that there were many more options in stainless than white from appliance manufacturers.

That being said, I have relatives who have white appliances and it looks great but they have white doors and white baseboards (which I don't) so looks coordinated.
