Anton you have no idea what the space looks like so these random suggestions don’t help. I happen to love drapes in bedrooms they give a warm feeling and since your view is not pretty use nice full drpes in a colr that works with your bedding. BTW to get real answers post some pics of the whole space.

Thanks for your input Patricia. I don’t have other pictures of the bedroom at this time, but there is nothing in it anyway. It is one empty rectangular 11x15 ft box with the window you see and a door. I actually like the view. I like the urban look with the old brick building I can see in addition to the park below me and mountains in the background (to the left).

I thought that for drapes I needed more wall space on either side of the window to hold enough fabric to cover the window properly. If I had all that fabric, it would cover some of the window, limiting the natural light I get.

You could use an "inside mount" which means that the entire blind would be within the window trim. The narrow walls on either side of the window would be irrelevant and you could put furniture (or your bed?) below the window because nothing would hang down into that area.

I bought Bali blackout cellular shades from blinds.com. I'm not specifically recommending those for you but I found blinds.com to be a good reseller and it does provide advice and samples.

I would go with decorative curtain panels and bamboo blinds for privacy.

If you like the idea of draperies with blinds of some sort, the draperies need not be full coverage draperies with all that bulk. Just simple panels hung on either side, covering only the woodwork on the edges of the windows, giving the illusion of being full width draperies. And blocking NO light at all. They will just soften the wall and frame the windows. The real “work” of window covering will be done by your blinds.
