Is medicine cabinet a necessity?

We are doing a major remodel of a home we bought. We added a master bathroom. Wondering if people think a medicine cabinet is necessary. We will have a 36 inch vanity with some storage. Honestly, we are desperately over budget and are looking for places to cut expenses. Many thanks.

I think whether additional storage is necessary depends on how much storage you need/what the vanity offers. If it’s sufficient, then not necessary. If necessary, I prefer recessed.

Our old MB had a large vanity and a medicine cabinet. We ditched the medicine cabinet. Why do you need it if you already have storage elsewhere?

No a medicine cabinet isn't necessary. You really shouldn't store medicine in the bathroom anyway. Too much moisture.

Depends on if the 36" vanity has drawers, how many and how deep they are.

We don't have a medicine cabinet in any of our three bathrooms. The house does have lots of storage, though. I've never found the storage convenient in a medicine cabinet. It's shallow and things are prone to falling out.
