Here is a photo of a section of the wood in the first stage

Waverly, that is gorgeous!!! Just had a visual of a woman buried under a pile of cats...ha!

Jlazart, I can’t wait to see the finished product. That husband of yours certainly deserves a beer or two between stages :). Keep us posted!

    Momofthree, the backsplash looks beautiful!

Everything is demo'd, reframed, and insulated; ready for drywall.

We have been SOOOO fortunate, no hiccups other than subs with shaky calendars, until we had the insulation inspection yesterday. The inspector pounced on our planned range hood (700 CFM) now requiring makeup air per code.

While I completely understand the thinking here (and it's international code, and consider how much farther along European countries are than us in terms of energy efficiency and air quality), this is a two-story 96-year-old house that doesn't even have insulation in the first floor plaster walls, except for the reno area. There's a gentle breeze inside on windy days, year-round. We aren't going to get asphyxiated. (We installed the identical range hood in another house 4 years ago, and no one blinked.) I would never knowingly endanger my family or guests, but for the 5 minutes per every three months that we run this thing on high (what I call the "oh crap!" setting), we're gonna survive. I will prop open the back door or something.

So oh well, que sera sera, and we've ordered a cheapo replacement hood at 400 cfm that will get us through final inspection, and then, umm, do what needs to be done. To me, it's ironic, because homeowners upgrade range hoods all the time without needing to pull a permit.

But hey, we have boxes of marble tile and glazed handmade subway tile and forty-'leven appliances and fixtures, and they're about to start getting installed!

WOW Waverly that wood is amazing.

Caroline. it really is. the photos don't even do it justice.

Any updates? Our cabinets are being delivered 12/6! So close yet so far...

We ran the gas to the range's final location yesterday. Next weekend is electrical. Then HVAC, insulation, and central vacuum. I'm going to procrastinate on ordering cabinets until the drywall is up.

    Nice progress itsourcasa and jlazart!
We are getting the final coat on the floors on Friday and then the paint is being done the week of the 20th. Almost across the finish line friends!
Doing the same color in the kitchen that’s in the rest of our house BM Balboa Mist...love it with our simply white cabinets and grey subway :)
This is a pic of simple white cabs with Balboa mist cabs and Balboa mist with simply white wainscoting.

Ordering our shelves from Etsy for over the desk area so we can install them as soon as the area is painted. I can’t wait...they look really beautiful in the pics! How’s it going for everyone else?

We are slowly getting there. Countertops where put in yesterday. For multiple reasons and unfortunate circumstances, It took almost 6 weeks and 3 installers, to get them in. We are coming up on 6 months and we are tired. But, I still love my kitchen. Appliances go in, tomorrow. We had our 1st kitchen prepared meal, for dinner . Soup (warmed up in the microwave), salad and ham sandwiches. Hoping to be able to cook a Turkey soon.

Love those counters, and you already have your shelves decorated...beautiful! Getting close, Caroline!

Caroline, love your counters. Love your mixer. Reminds me of my mom's Hamilton Beach which I used for so many years when I was learning to bake as a teenager.

Waverly6. The mixer was my mom's and I learned to bake with it. It still works, it will sit on my counter for awhile, because it is kind of like having her with me.

Caroline your kitchen is beautiful! Love your countertops and how you gave already decorated the shelving. It will be a fun Thanksgiving!

Caroline, that is so special. I wish I had kept my mom's When she died, as I live in another country, there was so little I could bring. The one sister who lives there is very unsentimental and got rid of everything before we could think about it and get the stuff on another visit.

Everyone's spaces look beautiful! @Momofthree Ma, love the ceiling in your dining room. And I love the shelving... didn't realize you could order those on Etsy. @Caroline H, love, love, love your countertops! Are they White Macaubus?

@jslazart, are you doing all the work yourselves? If so, i commend you!

Our counters will finally go in on Thursday! Crossing fingers that all goes okay!

We are doing most of it. I'm good with a sledge hammer and paint, my husband is an electrical engineer with a dad who worked in HVAC his whole life. We hire out the framing and the plumbing. We met over a mutual love of working on cars. Houses have proven easier (albeit, similarly expensive).

We are finally done friends! I did a reveal post, but wanted to post here too :)

@momofthree, what a transformation. it turned out beautifully. So much storage, so open, so much light and such clean lines. I love all your choices.

Is your microwave a built-in one or freestanding?

What color did you end up painting the walls?

Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist OC-27...it’s what’s in the rest of my house too...it’s a great neutral.

    Beautiful mom! I love it!

Waverly, the microwave is actually a $120 stand alone from Lowe’s. We only use the micro for coffee and tea reheat and occasional popcorn,so I just couldn’t justify a built in, this works perfectly and allowed me a space for a little cook book nook :)

Cool. Momofthree Ma., I was asking because that's what I want to do but I thought that non built ins need clearance around. I guess I need to check the specs of what I have and if that won't work, then whatever I choose.

It has clearance all the way around and about 6 inches in the back(tiny microwave), but we only use it for a minute or two at a time, so we don’t have a lot of heat or steam to contend with.

    Great to know

Waverly, here’s a closer pic, in case you decide to do something similar.

Ok. I see! In the photo ( from a distance, without my glasses on...), the dark space around it looked like a trim kit or a black rim. Great to know. I definitely don't want it on the counter and I was originally thinking of a mw drawer but for the amount we would use it , it just isn't a justified expense. Plus, it's more for visitors and there is no question in my mind that someone would try to push it or pull it and break it within weeks.

momof3 three it is beautiful. I love your windows and your dinning area. You must love cooking in it. And I love your Christmas touches.

That looks wonderful!! You did a great job!

I am so excited!!!! I have been watching you all and waiting. My demo is almost done and I can see the big picture, Literally. Walls and obstructions and peninsulas and islands are out! Meantime, I took my cats out of the construction zone and left the mess and am cooking in a real kitchen again with so much counter space that I am enjoying cooking again.

Our cabinets arrived!!! Hoping they get installed before Christmas!

    That is exciting.

Ooohhhhh Waverly and Casa, so excited for you both! Can’t wait to see progress pics :)

    Your new space looks beautiful!

We just finished our reno a month ago.

Oh Rekha, that is also so beautiful, It is sleek, sophisticated and warm all at the same time. I love how you tied the flooring and island and dining table together so well and harmoniously. I love your light fixtues too. You must have such joy working in that kitchen.

Beautiful space Rekha! Love the clean lines and the chandelier is perfect!

Thank you! It’s great having a space that is functional, organized and aesthetically pleasing. The suggestions I received, reading other posts and looking at tons of pictures on Houzz have all contributed to my updated kitchen. Thank you everyone for helping me over the last six months!!

I haven't really been participating on this thread, but have been following along as we go through a major reno to a century-old home that hadn't been updated in any way since the early 80s. We started in August and were originally due for an October completion, which was pushed back to "before christmas", and now that's slipped out of our grasp too. But lots has happened... the entire new HVAC system is up and running, the complete rewire is done, plumbing work is complete, all moving/replacing/patching/skimming of walls and ceilings is done, and our beautiful new floors are finished. Kitchen installation (Ikea cabs) starts this week, and I cannot wait!

EA I'm following due to the world's slowest bathroom remodel lol. That progress isn't bad! And now you get to see some real progress!

Ah, my remodel also includes a bathroom and a powder room! I don't have any good progress pictures at the moment because I only get to visit after dark by cell phone light (light fixtures aren't installed yet), but here are some "befores" of the bathrooms. We're calling the powder room the "hobbit bathroom" as it's built under the stairs and the ceiling tops out at 5'8". On the remodel we're "leaning in" to the weird cave-like qualities of the space :)

EA sounds very similar to our reno timeline but we started in June. I'm hoping for mid January move in now but I think that's even pushing it. Knowing we're not alone helps haha.

itsourcasa totally, nice to know someone else is in the same boat! We'd BETTER be in there in January. Everyone's holiday party conversation opener with us is "so, how's life in the new house?" Argh.

Hi. Good to see Everyones progress.
I have read many houzz post about backsplash anxiety and boy is it real. Once it was time to choose the tile, it just became to much. I needed to back off for awhile. I have picked an antique white arabesque, that i hope will be installed someday? Haha. Hoping for a Christmas miracle. Megs1030 sorry I didn't respond earlier, but yes my counters are white macaubas and I love them. My kitchen is functional, but not complete. Some changes are needed to the electric and small things to be fixed. My previous kitchen was very small and unorganized, so cooking in this kitchen is a pleasure. The first time cooking a large meal I actually had a flash back to Home Economics, from high school.Haha..
Waverly and Casa can't wait to see your kitchens. Rekha your kitchen is smooth and handsome. Beautiful kitchen. E.A. hang in there, it will get done.Ours was supposed to be done in July. It has been a long stinky affair, but it should be done soon and I love my kitchen.

Our cabinets are 80% in, and I finally got to confirm that my slightly quirky idea to sneak a 24" wide pantry in by recessing it into a wall alongside some duct work actually works and doesn't look stupid. Great news!

Is this thread still going, or do we need a new one for winter? (Then spring.. then summer.. because this project is certainly never getting finished..)

If it is, behold my lovely new kitchen sink...

Progress Jslazart!!! And yes, I like continuing to follow along. Love the sink :)
