1/2 OT: Sharing Some Cool Sans-related New Fabrics

last modified: 6 years ago

I've been working on getting some designs of mine printed on to fabrics at Spoonflower. Some of you may have seen my recent posts about it at Quilt Forum. Can I share what I just received, some of my first samples? Am so stoked, but have no one to share it w/ right now.

Here's here my Photo that started this design. Am a long time GW plant poster, this was a pic of mine that I posted at the Sans. Forum. Sadly, I lost the plant fast, but I loved this picture I'd taken.

So after dabbling around w/ the pix & some software, I designed these 2 prints & here are the resultant fabrics.

With some kaleidescopic manipulation & a variation in color here's the 2nd print.

I'm pretty darn amazed!!

Those are very nice prints Karen. Do you have plans for the fabric? It’s too pretty to cut!

Wonderful, Karen, to be both on textiles and a real plant. Was it 100% cotton that you used?

Thanks folks. Lovely thing to say Stewart. No, I don't have particular plans for the fabric. But I could see using some of the 2nd fabric in a quilt of some kind. Or on the back of a quilt for some visual interest. But this digital printing company Spoonflower is capable of printing one's designs as wallpaper or gift wrap as well.

Hi Jeff, thx, it IS 100% cotton, which was my choice, as I tend to think of my fabrics in the context of quilting, so I'd want them to be cotton. But Spoonflower offers multiple different weight fabrics & other fibers (they do some poly in both wovens & knits).

    Hi Folks,

The Sans Show & Chat thread reminded me of this thread I'd made. Seeing the fun face masks Nancy made from Sans Fabric reminded me. Thanks Stush for making that Chat thread for us, was a GREAT idea.

Also bringing these back up for anyone who hadn't seen them yet, like our returning friend Amanda (asarumgreenpanda).

I haven't done anything w/ the fabrics yet even at the Digital Printing Company. But I recently decided to release the 2nd fabric for sale, as a I wish to buy several yards of it myself.

My Sister had admired that particular print & I wish to make her something w/ it. (Likely, a simple sarong-type wrap for the Beach. We grew up in Rio de Janeiro & the Beach is deeply imprinted in us. She lives in FLA, a couple of blocks from her beach, as I am from mine here in Brooklyn, at the opposite end of the Coney Island Boardwalk).

Lastly, in these high stress times, seeing these again makes me smile & I'll hope it does the same for others. And of course, these fabrics affirm my love of Sans & variegates in particular.

    Enjoy & Stay Safe Everybody.

These are wonderful. I especially like the one where you left in the little dark bit. It make it look 3-D

Thanks Quiltnhen, do you mean the last pic, the blue/green print w/ the dark bit in the middle? vs. the original pic w/ has a bit of dark at the very bottom of lower right?
