Hummingbird and some questions on daylilies

This hummingbird has been attracted to the Rose Of Sharon bush. Finally able to get some pics using the telephoto lens on the camera. The Japanese Beetles appear to be almost gone and I think the storms we've had and continue to have is helping to kill them off.

Would like to have your opinions on a couple of daylily questions.

Which parent of a cross will produce the genetics, ie pod or pollen?

Is it beneficial to cut back the daylily foliage at the end of the season? Have you noticed a difference when cutting it all back to 6 inches versus leaving it all winter?

Have you ever cut off a scape with a seed pod and let it mature in a bucket of water?
