Structural importance of nailing fins on windows ?

The rough openings for several of our windows are quite large for the windows resulting in the nails for the nailing fins being only 1/8" - 1/2" in from the edge. Once the window is in they are putting screws through the window & shims in to the studs. Is it OK for the fin nails to be so close to the edge? Are the fins structural or not really? These photos are from two different windows.

Notice the gap at the top of the window and how close the fin nails are. Is this acceptable?

Different window. Doing some quick measuring the nails are about 3/8" in from the edge of the stud. So better than above but this is still a much wider gap than I would typically have done. There is a screw through the window & shims in to the stud. Good enough?

Thanks,
