I'd imagine it would look a lot better and be more authentic to time and place if you went with tile that looked like tile for the kitchen. Is there a reason you've ruled that out? Pictures of your space would help a lot.

Thanks Robbin. Here’s the original floor. Again, can stain any color. Also, here is the new floorplan. The great room is the only original part of the house to remain. We just haven’t fallen in love with any normal kitchen tiles and the tile will flow all down the hallway and into the powder and laundry likely. Thanks for your help!

Matching wood look tile to real wood is never successful. Buy a tile you love for the kitchen (slate?) or get matching hardwood everywhere. Heart pine is still readily available and will be the most valuable but total cost will not be very different than tile plus a qualified tile setter.

Your floor looks like oak. If it is, you could extend it throughout your kitchen. Otherwise, I would pick a tile without woodgrain or a linoleum. Real wood next to imitation wood is not the best look.

Looks like a pretty house! I'm not a Florida expert, but it's possible that Florida lake houses in the 20s had a pretty specific style. Florida alone conjures up certain colors and styles in one's imagination. I agree with others to stay away from wood-look tile and find kitchen flooring that's modern but true to the age and style of your house. Since this is a lake house, you can have fun with color in the flooring, especially being in Florida. Maybe try to find Google images of vintage Florida lake houses?

Definitely heartpine, and readily available (it was the most common flooring in the south). Usually now what you get will be Resawn from old beams- they call it reclaimed heart pine. Most good hardwood flooring installers in your area will be familiar.
