I find Hellebore much more vigorous in at least part sun, in fact, best growth I have is about 1/2 sun.

They do not like to stay moist, you may be overwatering with your hostas.

The above are both very good points. Hellebores are only shade tolerant.......not specifically shade lovers. I find they bloom best in at least half day sun. In hot summer climates, that would probably be morning sun and then with protection from hot afternoon sun. Or with lightly dappled all day shade.

And they are very drought tolerant once established. They do tend to dwindle if in too much moisture.

FWIW, Ivory Prince is known to have a very prolific and extended bloom period. That it has not produced flowers for several years is a strong indication that the cultural conditions are not to its liking.

Thank you both very much. I planted them some years ago and just knew according to what I was told, that they were “shade” plants. I also water them them when I water my hostas. I was a novice gardener then. Have become a better one because of this forum. I will move them from the front where all the shade is and look for a spot with partial shade and more sun.
