I agree that matching would be too predictable.

as long as they aren't totally opposite, you'll be fine. just pick something that compliments one another.

I love all these ideas! And Beth I love how you photoshopped the fixture into my kitchen pic! That is really brilliant! You all are giving me some courage and hope! I was really worried I’d blown it by going to bold with the pendants over the island since my kitchen table is so close in proximity to island. So I think what I’m hearing and seeing is ok to go with different style as long as there’s some element that ties in with island pendants - like shape or finish. I kind of like the idea of tying into the round shape of metal rings that frame bottom of pendant shades. I think the contemporary round fixture with fabric shade fits that theme with the ring of metal surrounding top and bottom of shade. Also the clear glass pendant has similar metal rings on it. I really like the blue fixtures as well. Do you all agree that I should keep diameter of fixture on the small side since things in my kitchen are so close to one another? You guys are the best!

Suezbell, I’m not sure I remember the paint color. It was originally a Sherwin Williams color that I loved but the color only came in a particular type of paint maybe called duration that ended up horrible with brush strokes showing etc. So I ended up having Home Depot match the color in their Beher brand and repainted entire kitchen. Turned out great. I’ll try to find the color and let you know. It is a tomato red shade.

Beth maybe just let me know if your fixtures came from Houzz. If so I’m sure I’ll be able to find them on the site.

Hi Suezbell! I haven't forgotten that you were curious about the paint color in my kitchen. I found the original can from Sherwin Williams and it's their Duration brand paint in "peppery." As I mentioned previously, the Duration did not apply well (visible unsightly brush strokes) so I had Home Depot match it with their own brand of paint. Hope this helps you out!
