Should my shower curtain and window shade match?

Hi all-

I'm looking for a little advice. I'm remodeling the hall bath in the second story, which will be used by my children. It's approximately 8.5 x 8.5'.

I'm going for a classic, soothing effect. Cherry vanity and linen storage tower, marble octagon and dot tile, and plain white 4" tile in the bath/shower. Countertop undecided. Attached are some pictures of these choices.

Vanity inspiration.

Floor tile.

I love this fabric from Ballard Designs, and I was thinking of having a shower curtain made from it. Should I also have a window shade made to match? Most of the other rooms in the upstairs have woven wood shades, which I love, but I thought it might be nice to do something different. I do love the rooms you see decorated by professionals where the whole room is swathed in matching fabric. But they are professionals!

Can I pull off the look of matching shade and shower curtain? Would you do it?

Kids and marble are not a good choice. As long as that is marble pattern, OK, otherwise I would advise against.

Thanks Ida! Wow you’re good:) As soon as I read it I said yes of course that’s what I should do! Just couldn’t get excited about another woven wood shade.

filipe and cpartist- thanks for the vote! I agree with Ida too:)

north texan- I haven’t committed to the marble yet. I‘m considering starting another thread on this very thing. What do you see as the issues? I would like to see pictures of marble tile that has been used by kids, and I searched without luck. Staining?

You can coordinate like suggested above which I like or you can use the same fabric. I’ve done both.

Staining and etching. Etching is like a non-shiny spot, maybe with a rougher feel. Anything acidic can etch. Urine is acidic. Do you have boys? Do they ever dribble? Now you will know if they do, if you put in marble floors! Will your children use any products on the marble counter? How will you feel about stains from products that are dyed or from makeup? Do you want to learn to make different poultices and apply them for days as you hope to pull stains out of the marble? Here is What Marble Etching Looks Like

You can avoid the whole problem by using a quartz counter top that resembles marble, instead of real marble, and a porcelain floor tile that resembles marble.

Sheeisback- thanks. I love the idea of coordinating with a trim. Something about matching was making me pause..

Nancy- thank you. The countertop will almost certainly be some type of solid surface in an almost white color. The floor tile I’m considering is honed, and I’m not a spotless, shiny surface type of person, so etching doesn’t bother me at all. I feel like the beauty of marble can handle imperfections here and there; I really am into surfaces that look used! But on the other hand, an obvious stained area near the toilet does sound horrible!

All that said.. I don’t hate the idea of porcelain, but I can’t find any marble look in a small mosaic like I want; either basketweave or this octagon and dot. So if I decided against this it would be plain white small mosaic of some kind, most likely. And I love the look of the marble with cherry vanity as in my first pic in the op.
