Match the floors (that means you won't change anything about your kitchen floor) and then update the kitchen. The cabinets are quite strong in colour (there is probably a stain on them) and the counter tops are tile. They are looking a little tired/dated.

Before you do anything to the wood floors you will need to think out/plan out the kitchen refresh. Once you have the FINAL plan regarding the look of the kitchen you can THEN go ahead and start with the floors.

If you change the colour of the kitchen floors you will need to change the colour of the wood in the rest of the home. And that takes on a much higher price tag.

Thanks for your thoughtful response McCarthy. The floors are being refinished because of a water leak that occurred. Insurance is paying. I think this might be a good opportunity to get rid of some of that golden stain. I’m not convinced it should all match. The kitchen floors are already a different hard wood than the rest of the house. But I can see what your saying, visually it might be more appealing for it all to flow one color.
